Foster Home Feedback
12/22/24 Foster Feedback: This is it: I may have found the perfectest dog. Truffle, aka Truffy, is sweet, cuddly, smart, calm, and loves to be around other dogs and people. She had a few accidents in the early days since she has been here, but I attribute that to being loaded up on IV fluids post-surgery for a bowel obstruction. I am told that she got into garbage and ate something she shouldn't have, however I keep my bin in a cabinet and have had zero problems. She is trusted to roam the house while I'm not home- hasn't touched a single thing that is not hers.
Truffe knows how to sit, and we are working on leave it- I think there is more training in there, we just have not uncovered it yet. She sits perfectly still to get her harness put on and does not pull on her leash; actually, she has hugged my side the whole time she's been here, even off leash in the [fenced] backyard. I guess if she has a flaw, it is that she can tend to be underfoot.
We went to the vet today to get her stitches out. Truffle was scared but did not react poorly- was cooperative and quiet the whole time. She didn't make a peep on the whole ride to Casselton, did not pull on her leash or try to run away or charge other dogs in the building. The one other thing I have found is that Truffle will not come into the bathroom for some reason- I suspect she is not a fan of getting baths, although I haven't tried to give her one, but we work on being brave every day. :) Being a dog, she does not love the vacuum or the Roomba but is content to put herself elsewhere when it is floor-cleaning time.
Truffle is very content to chill on the couch while I work and loves to cuddle with anyone who is willing. Now that her stitches are out and all her meds are finished, I am waiting to see if a more active, playful side will appear, as she is only 4. I am not sure if she is crate trained because I am the type of lazy foster that leaves the dogs loose all the time- she sleeps on my bed at night, and even wearing the cone, she had no problems.
Truffe does have lovely thick, soft lab fur, but I have only noticed minimal shedding so far- she'll probably shed in the spring when it warms up. Lastly, we call her Anteater because her tongue is a foot long and if you get close enough to her face, she absolutely will lick you- you will never lack for kisses with this girl.
Outside of the post-surgery care (which was a lot of pills and boiled dinners and a cone, but for which she was an absolute angel), Truffe is the easiest foster dog I have ever had. Snap this beauty up today because she will not be here long.
