Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Hi! I’m Suki, a 4 and a half-year-old Akita/Pointer mix, and I’m looking for a loving home where I can show you just how sweet and playful I am!
I’m a gentle and loving girl with a fun, active side. I enjoy playing with bones and going on walks or runs to stretch my legs and explore the world. I’m always up for some fun, but I also have a calm, laid-back side where I just love to relax with you and soak up all the attention I can get.
I’ve had some training, so I know a few things, but I’ve mostly lived outside, so I’m still learning some of the inside rules. I’m not housebroken yet, but I’m eager to learn and would love to have someone patient who can help me with that. I’m also still figuring out how to be on a leash, so I might need some guidance with that too—but I’m a quick learner, and with some practice, I’ll get the hang of it! I’m a treat-motivated girl, and I’m always eager to learn new things, especially if there’s a yummy reward at the end. I take treats gently and know some commands—I just need a little help with consistency to make sure I’m the best-behaved pup I can be.
I’m a sweet girl who absolutely loves kids of all ages—I’m gentle and affectionate with them and always ready to hang out. I’ve lived with another dog before and really enjoyed the companionship, especially with my previous doggie friend who was introduced to me when she was a puppy. However, I can be a little selective about which dogs I get along with, especially adult male dogs. So, I’d be happiest in a home where I’m the only dog, or where my new dog sibling and I can take things slow and make sure we’re a good match.
I do NOT like cats or chickens—I've actually harmed a cat before, and I tend to hunt small animals like mice and rabbits. If you have any smaller critters, I’d need to stay far away from them. However, I could potentially live with cows or other larger livestock that I wouldn’t be able to harm. I love going on adventures and have a strong hunting instinct, so when I catch an animal’s scent or get distracted, it can be hard to get my attention. But don’t worry—if you call me or whistle, I will usually come back (especially if there’s a treat involved!).
I don’t like it when my tail gets pulled (who would, right?), and I’m also not a fan of fireworks—they really scare me, so I’d appreciate a quiet, calm space when they’re going off.
I’ve got medium energy, so while I’m playful and love to get outside, I’m not too high-strung. I’m ready to find a family who can give me the love, attention, and training I need to become the best companion I can be. If you’re looking for a sweet, gentle dog who’s excited to be part of the family, I’d love to meet you!

In August of 2015, the Idaho Falls community realized its dream of opening a second animal sheltering facility. Unlike other animal shelters, the Snake River Animal Shelter (SRAS) will provide an animal an unlimited length of stay, thus avoiding the need for euthanasia.
SRAS was built to take owner surrenders and transfer animals from other shelters throughout the Upper Snake River Valley, thus relieving overcrowding at the city operated animal shelters throughout East Idaho. We operate solely on donations, grants and sponsorships from businesses and individuals. This unique place offers adoption services and a place for the animals to socialize with each other and their future families. Education is a large part of the existence of this facility, educating the community about proper pet care and responsibilities. We also facilitate and partner in spay and neuter programs to alleviate the problem of too many unwanted domestic animals. Snake River Animal Shelter offers Elementary-age field trips, tours, and presentations and invites teens to participate in the care and feeding of the SRAS animals. Senior citizens are welcome guests and fulfill many volunteer positions that are essential for the care of our animals.
