We have entered a partnership with Franklin County Dog Shelter to help reduce their euthanization rates. Gromit is one of those dogs in need who will be running out of time soon. Please understand we do our best to keep these posts updated. If you have any questions, please reach out. For more information on these kinds of posts, please scroll down to the bottom.
Out-Of-State adoption available - Coming Back Home Rescue provides transportation for approved adopters.
Critical = Dogs most likely to be posted for euth next.
Urgent = Dogs who may have more time before being posted.
Next round of dogs posted for euthanization at FCDS begins 12/27. His final day of life has NOT been scheduled YET but has been placed on their Urgent List. A date will be scheduled within a week at the earliest or by the end of the month at the latest. Time is still of the essence.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Our job is to post dogs in need from partnered shelters, vet potential homes, pull dogs from the Franklin County Dog to get them off death row and transport them to their forever homes. This is the process we have been using for over 3 years and do our best to assist potential homes. However, it is not a process for everyone. If you are interested in meeting Gilbert, please visit the Franklin County Dog Shelter in Columbus, OH.
For a more traditional process, we have a lot of great dogs available for adoption through Coming Back Home Rescue. All of our dogs through Coming Back Home Rescue are eligible for greet and meets, and Foster to Adopt trials.
ALTERNATIVE for TRADITIONAL PROCESS:
Betsy - Staffy/Female/5YO - Trained/Laid-Back
Available Directly through CBHR

Gromit
2 Years Old
46 Pounds
Here is what FCDS had to say about Preston;
Bio – Gromit is available for rescue due to high FAS levels at the shelter. He has been quiet and timid since arriving at the shelter. Staff had him out on 11/25 and he was a little hard to leash. He went potty outside right away, was very flinchy with any noise or fast movements, in an office he stayed near the door. He’s been in the Shy Dog Program being worked with daily by staff and Volunteers. He has made some improvements but still needs a little help. On 12/09 staff got him out for some office time. Gromit settled nicely and was able to lay quietly on the dog bed. He was interactive with the person, allowed pets all over, and enjoyed playing with the rope toy. He was still leery of the leash when they went to put it back on him but he was more accepting of it
He was tested with a male Pit mix on 11/25. Gromit kept his distance, his head was low, and he sniffed around.
UPDATE 12/20 Gromit is participating in the Holiday Sleepover event. His bio will be updated when he is returned.
UPDATE 12/23 Gromit was returned today because the other adult in the home was allergic to him. He didn’t have any accidents in the house. Gromit was only left alone for 6 hours one time and he was crated (no noise complaints). He wasn’t the biggest fan of car rides. They said he was teh sweetest boy ever. He has moment of high energy but also liked cuddling on the couch or in bed. Gromit did well meeting new people (all were adults).
CBHR Feedback;
- This dog is suffering from kennel syndrome which is the mental decline of a dog in a particular environment. Once the dog is removed from the environment, dogs often make a 180 in their behaviors for the better.
- Homes must provide slow introductions for other animals. Gromit is shy.
NOTE: This dog was suggested as a terrier, hound, shepherd mix.

Additional adoption info
We always start off with the application reviewing them at a first come, first serve basis. We look for the best possible compatibility and may ask questions to help to determine if you would be a great possible match. Next, we schedule something known as a "Happy Visit" where you can meet your potential new family member. We usually do this at your property which also covers the brief home visit. However, we also have adoption events or can meet in neutral locations for some animals. Afterwards, you sign an adoption contract and pay for their adoption fee.
ALL adopters must go through a Foster to Adopt before finalizing to ensure it's a good fit.
We check in on a 3-3-3 basis to make sure everything is going well between your new pet while providing resources to help make transitioning smoother.
