Here's what the humans have to say about me:
We have entered a partnership with Franklin County Dog Shelter to help reduce their euthanization rates. Gilbert is one of those dogs in need who will be running out of time soon. Please understand we do our best to keep these posts updated. If you have any questions, please reach out. For more information on these kinds of posts, please scroll down to the bottom.
Out-Of-State adoption available - Coming Back Home Rescue provides transportation for approved adopters.
Critical = Dogs most likely to be posted for euth next.
Urgent = Dogs who may have more time before being posted.
Next round of dogs posted for euthanization at FCDS begins 12/27. His final day of life has NOT been scheduled YET but has been placed on their Urgent List. A date will be scheduled within a week at the earliest or by the end of the month at the latest. Time is still of the essence.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Our job is to post dogs in need from partnered shelters, vet potential homes, pull dogs from the Franklin County Dog to get them off death row and transport them to their forever homes. This is the process we have been using for over 3 years and do our best to assist potential homes. However, it is not a process for everyone. If you are interested in meeting Gilbert, please visit the Franklin County Dog Shelter in Columbus, OH.
For a more traditional process, we have a lot of great dogs available for adoption through Coming Back Home Rescue. All of our dogs through Coming Back Home Rescue are eligible for greet and meets, and Foster to Adopt trials.
ALTERNATIVE for TRADITIONAL PROCESS:
Betsy - Staffy/Female/5YO - Trained/Laid-Back
Available Directly through CBHR

Gilbert Gottfried
6.4 Years Old
71 Pounds
Here is what FCDS had to say about Gilbert;
Bio – Gilbert is available for rescue due to his length of stay at the shelter (08/03/24). He was picked up and brought to the shelter after being found running loose as a stray with no background information. He is a happy boy and was easy to leash and get out of his kennel. Gilbert may be housebroken since he went potty as soon as he got outside. He is very treat motivated and can get a little jumpy for treats but knows sit, shake, and lay down. He loves playing with toys but doesn’t really want to bring them back to his person.
He was tested with a female Husky mix on 8/10. Gilbert approached with fully body wiggles and play bowing. He liked to wrestle and play chase. Gilbert had a rougher playstyle and was too much for the other dog so the interaction didn’t last too long. He was tested again with a large female dog on 11/27. He didn’t notice the other dog at first and did tense up a little when the other dog came from across the yard and body slammed him (playfully). He quickly play bowed and started playing though.
CBHR Feedback;
- Playstyle will not be for every dog. Will need either correction and taught how to play with others. May not play with other dogs in the same manner if presented in a calmer environment.
- There are no immediate concerns for this dog.

Additional adoption info
We always start off with the application reviewing them at a first come, first serve basis. We look for the best possible compatibility and may ask questions to help to determine if you would be a great possible match. Next, we schedule something known as a "Happy Visit" where you can meet your potential new family member. We usually do this at your property which also covers the brief home visit. However, we also have adoption events or can meet in neutral locations for some animals. Afterwards, you sign an adoption contract and pay for their adoption fee.
ALL adopters must go through a Foster to Adopt before finalizing to ensure it's a good fit.
We check in on a 3-3-3 basis to make sure everything is going well between your new pet while providing resources to help make transitioning smoother.
