Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
My name is Annie, and I am SO happy to be around my person! I have a lot of energy that I use for tug-o-war and fetch - I am a PRO at fetch! Once it's time for bed, though, I want to curl up by my person's legs, under the covers, and I sleep hard right through to morning. I had FHO surgery when I was a puppy, so my back left leg is a little weaker than the others. I can still run and jump and play, but I will lift it when I stand still and when I'm outside in the cold. This means walking on a leash isn't my favorite, but I do always go potty outside! New people, smaller kids, and other dogs stress me out, and I can show my fear with a lot of barking and some nipping. So it's important that my new person understands how to deal with some chihuahua possessive behavior, and can spend time with me on training so I can learn how to be less afraid.
Chihuahua Rescue says: Annie is SO sweet once she settles in to her new place. She loves to snuggle and is so playful. She needs an experienced adopter who understands that chihuahuas can be possessive over their one person, and can work with her on her fear of new people. She has done well with the foster's cats, and her prior owner's rabbit. Annie is currently dealing with yeast issues on her skin, resulting is bald spots from itching. She has medication and requires regular baths, but she takes it all like a champ! She is very well potty trained when she is let out every few hours. She has peed inside with her foster when she was stressed from the foster leaving the house, but this can be helped with potty pads or a doggy diaper as needed. She will make a wonderful companion for the right person!!

Additional adoption info
**If you are unable to pay the adoption fee ($250 and up), we are unable to place a dog in your care. Being unable to meet the financial obligations of pet care (recurrent or emergent) is one of many reasons why so many of these pets end up in rescue. It's not lack of love.**
We require an adoption application, and then we will check references. We also check with vets. If the person is not LOCAL then we will partner with a local animal control to complete a home visit.
There are adoption fees associated with the costs of veterinary care of the pet. We require an adoption contract to be signed to finalize the adoption process and we have an agreement that all our pets are to be Chihuahua Rescue Indiana Inc. pets for LIFE. In other words, in the event that they can not stay in their adoptive home, they are not to be surrendered to another individual or rescue.

More about this rescue
Chihuahua Rescue Indiana Inc. is a non profit, all volunteer rescue working with Chihuahuas and Chihuahua mixes. The pets are housed in individual volunteer foster homes, not kennels or shelters until they are adopted permanently. We get to know our animals and therefore can tell the potential adopter what the traits of the animal are and what home would be the best for the pet. We are dedicated to the adoption, education, rescue and transportation of the Chihuahua breed. We believe that every Chihuahua deserves a loving home.
