My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Esmeralda! The most beautiful, dedicated little mama you’ll ever meet. Esmeralda was named for her gorgeous, soulful green eyes and we know that the second you stare into them you’ll fall in love! If she doesn’t immediately win you over with her eyes, she’ll for sure win you over with her sweet and affectionate heart. Esmeralda is a young mama who’s already had two litters of kittens, even though she’s barely out of kittenhood herself. She has experienced so much hardship in her young life! Living on the streets as a stray is never easy, but it’s particularly hard to be pregnant and give birth, and raise kittens as a stray. Esmeralda has sacrificed everything to keep her kittens safe and you can tell how grateful she is now to be in a safe, warm home. She is an excellent mama and she’s doing a great job caring for her babies!

Since Esmeralda is still young, she would benefit from being adopted into a home that has another kitty friend to play with, or with another kitty from FFF. She would really love to be adopted with one of her kittens! (Paloma Picasso, Salvador Dali, Gustav Klimt, Lucky Deuce, and Mambo #5). She is particularly close with her baby boy, Gustav Klimt, so she would be so happy if she could go home with him. Esmeralda is used to being surrounded by her kitty family and she is definitely not used to being alone, so she would likely do well in a home with other cats. She does have a preference for male cats and is very friendly with them but she tends to get territorial with other female cats. Esmeralda got along great with the two resident male cats in her foster home… until her second litter of kittens were born. Since having her new kittens, Esmeralda has started showing aggression toward the resident male cats, but we think she is just instinctively protecting her kittens and that her temporary defensiveness will likely pass as soon as her kittens are older and/or she is no longer caring for them. Since Esmeralda is shy and can be startled easily, she would thrive in a quiet and calm home environment. Her timid nature is also why she isn’t a great fit for a home with young children, but she would do well with older children who understand cat behavior and respect her boundaries. Most importantly, she needs to be in a home with people who love her and want to give her all the attention she craves and deserves!

Esmeralda’s demure nature is sure to win you over in no time. She can be shy upon meeting new people, but she warms right up with a scratch behind her ear. Considering her past, this beautiful young girl has every reason to be so cautious, outside is a scary place for a young mom! She startles easily, so loud noises will send her running to her hiding place and she won’t come out until she knows it safe. But being with people who show her love and kindness is slowly putting her more at ease. Esmeralda is a very gentle cat, but she had to be protective of her kittens while they were living outdoors, so she will hiss if she’s startled in a situation. Luckily, even when she is startled, she is easy to calm if you speak to her in a gentle voice and pet her to reassure her everything is fine. We’re sure she will become more at ease the longer she enjoys time safe and warm indoors.

With the stress of living as a stray and a young mom, Esmeralda hasn’t had much experience playing with cat toys. However, as she gets more and more comfortable as an indoor cat, she is learning to love to play! She can still be a bit cautious so she requires some patience, but we know her inner kitten is dying to get out and get rowdy! She likes to follow a cat chaser around and shows interest in long string toys.

One thing Esmeralda doesn’t need any lessons in is cuddling! She loves to be pet and to cuddle up on your lap once she’s comfortable with you. Just when you think you’re done petting her, she will lay down in front of you so you can pet her some more! Esmeralda also loves lounging nearby her people and watching her kittens play. Her foster mom says she will miss her reassuring presence that puts everyone at ease. She also absolutely loves meal time and she will let you know how happy she is by rubbing against your legs and meowing softly.

Esmeralda has been through so much hardship, but she is a survivor. Her resilience is truly an inspiration! It is miraculous that she’s managed to survive as a stray while caring for her kittens, but even more miraculous that the experience has not hardened her heart! Esmeralda can be shy and cautious, but her heart is filled with nothing but love for her kittens and her human companions. We can’t wait to see Esmeralda settle into her forever home for a life of love and luxury that this hard-working mama deserves.

Additional adoption info

Thank you for your interest in Forever Fortunate Felines.  We are very happy to have the opportunity to match you with your purr-fect cat-panion!

Once you complete the online application using the below link, you will be able to discuss and ask questions directly to the foster parent.  We believe this is a big advantage to you as our organization is completely foster based, we really understand our cats personalities at a deep level.  This helps to ensure a great match with you and your family.

In order to get the process going, would you kindly fill out our detailed online application located here:
http://www.foreverfortunatefelines.org/adopt

Completing our online application does not commit you to adopt from our rescue.  Rather it helps us to understand your requirements and match you with the best possible cat or kitten.

Once you complete the application and it is approved, we can set up a meet and greet and if all works out, you may bring the kittens or cats home the same day.  Please make sure to bring an adequately sized pet carrier with you to your meet and greet.  We recommend a pet carrier which opens from the top as this is the easiest way to place a cat inside a carrier.  If you do decide to adopt, we do expect you to take home your cat the same day as there are so many cats and kittens which need to be rescued from high kill shelters, we almost always rescue a new cat or kitten the very next day.  If it is not possible for you to take your cat or kitten home the same day, we do charge a boarding fee of $10 per day for supplies and to encourage you to take your newly adopted cat home.  We will board for a maximum of 3 days if needed to allow you time to get needed supplies.

Our adoption fees are listed at the link below. This fee includes full vetting, flea treatment, de-worming, spay surgery, FeLV and FIV test, microchip insertion, and vaccinations up to date for the kittens or cats age.  We are able to PayPal or most major credit cards for the adoption fee.

We have streamlined our adoption process to make it easy!  Everything from the application, to payment, to the contract is online.  Additionally, all of the cats records will be placed in your free Petlovers account at petstablished.com to keep organized.
