LLAMA NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!!
Come meet Llama and other great adoptable dogs this Sunday (12/29/24) from 12-3 pm at the PetSmart in Alexandria (3351 Richmond Hwy, Alexandria, VA 22305)!
Name: Llama Best Guess for Breed: Shepherd/Lab mix
Best Guess for Age: 2.5 years old as of 12/2024 Gender: female
Approximate Weight: 39lbs as of December 2024
Gets Along With: Other dogs! She is also doing well with the children in her foster home. We haven’t seen Llama with cats, but she can be tested!
Currently Living At: DC area foster home
Special Adoption Considerations: Llama is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs. All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care. After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months.
We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left!
Llama is Looking For: Llama the mama did a great job raising her babies who are now in their forever homes. Now that her mothering days are behind her, Llama is excited to explore the world and enjoy some well-deserved relaxation. Whether it’s going for quiet walks, lounging by your side, or simply enjoying a cozy spot in the sun, Llama is ready to be your loyal companion. She is eager to find a loving family who will give her the happiness she deserves!
What My Foster Says About Me: Llama is a sweetheart! She has done great with other dogs, including our resident dog who can be a grouch. She has also done well with our 9 year old kids. Llama is making great progress with crate and house training! She’s been doing well on a leash, enjoys slow sniffy walks but also kept up on a longer jog!
Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training.
TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment. If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog
