My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
Sandwich was brought in by her previous owner on December 23, 2024.

Why this pet is the one for you:
This is Sandwich! Sandwich is a beautiful red-eared slider who is ready and waiting to meet her forever family! Red-eared sliders are an invasive species in California, and should go to prepared homes where they can live out their days in comfort, without being able to run (er, slowly walk) away. Although sliders can live in huge (100+ gallon) indoor aquariums, their ideal living situation is an outdoor pond with room to swim, bask, and explore. Sandwich's pond should be established and bioactive, or equipped with a filter to keep her pool clean! Red-eared sliders live long lives (20+ years), so Sandwich needs someone to provide for her in the long term. Sandwich does enjoy her turtle pellets, but she will need to be supplemented with a species-specific omnivorous diet. Sandwich can't wait to bask in the sun in her new home! Don't forget that little tiny turtle fence to keep them from going on any adventures. If you think Sandwich is the one for you, ask about her today!

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
