Handsome, loving Chevy—an adult male Pyr - is ready to find a quiet, loving, home. This boy did not have any training, nor a lot of human interaction or kindness prior to coming to rescue after living on a farm. He has learned what a loving hand is, and gets so happy when his foster mom talks to him, leaning into her waiting to be hugged. His entire body language, to include wagging tail, shows his happiness and trust! He is learning to accept strangers, but will sometimes shake when a new person, especially a man, approaches, but with love and patience he is learning people equal love. His entire personality is gentle and kind. He prefers the girls and has learned to play—he will hop around and run and chase with his tail wagging so big! Cats are ok too - he sniffed when meeting them, and simply walked away when they did. This poor boy was so full of mats, but kindly accepted the brush, clippers, and nail trim with reassurance and a gentle hand. Chevy is currently in boarding and refuses to potty anywhere other than out in the grass. He is learning the house is not a bad place and will now calmly walk in and lay down patiently. The perfect home for this big handsome guy would be a quiet atmosphere with a person or two looking for a companion and best friend to share their life with. A medium-to-large playful canine female would be great along with a cat or two and a big, large, 5-foot fenced yard to patrol, play in or just hang out under a shade tree. His people should have plenty of patience and understanding to allow Chevy time to become comfortable. We promise that his gift in return will be unconditional love!

Our goal is to assess every application on its own merits. Key considerations are: 1) the experience of the applicant with large breed dogs 2) children in the household or regularly visiting the household are ready for a large-breed dog who is a guardian by nature and 3) the sex of other dogs currently residing in the household to avoid same-sex aggression issues. For puppies under six months old, the applicant’s ability to socialize the puppy with older dogs is a priority.
