Lilly is a 2yo female retriever mix who was rescued just in time from the Memphis Kill Shelter. Skittish, scared, shy, nervous, fearful. Lilly has been through a lot. Apparently her original home was not a good place for her because she has major trust issues, especially with men. Then in October she was abandoned on the streets of Memphis where she was rescued by a woman who took her to Memphis Kill Shelter after a couple of weeks because she had to travel for work. Lilly was scheduled to be euthanized right away due to her fear issues and, upon learning Lilly’s urgent plight, the woman’s FRIEND rushed right down to save Lilly from the shelter and decided to foster Lilly until she finds her Forever Home.
It’s evident that Lilly was well-socialized as a young dog because she knows how to walk on a leash, ride in the car, take treats and she was already crate trained and housebroken. We believe that Lilly was mistreated somewhere along the way and traumatized. She’s been in her new foster home about a month and has become much more calm and trusting in that now-familiar environment. Lilly loves and trusts her foster mom. She’s gentle and friendly with the older neighborhood children. Fine with other dogs. Not recommended for cats because she likes to chase them. Very active outside, calm and well-mannered in the house. Housebroken and crate-trained. Healthy and fully vetted, current on shots, spayed, weighs about 55 pounds. Lilly’s ideal adopter will be someone who’s had experience with traumatized, fearful dogs and has the time, patience and desire to help Lilly become the best dog she can be.
