My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Lakota!

Lakota is a 7.5-month-old superstar looking for his forever home! Saved as a stray puppy from our local shelter, Lakota has been with our rescue for the past few months, growing into an incredibly smart, attentive, and dog-friendly young guy. He is as dynamic as he is cute!

Currently, Lakota is thriving in a board-and-train program to fine-tune his skills and ensure he’s ready to seamlessly transition into a loving new home. While the president of our rescue initially intended to keep him, her home—filled with so many other dogs—wasn’t the best fit for this energetic and playful pup. Instead, she’s invested in his training so he can shine in the perfect home.

Why Lakota is Amazing:
🐾 Dog-Friendly: Loves playing with dogs of all sizes and genders. He’d thrive with a friendly, social, and playful canine companion.
🐾 Crate-Trained: Comfortable in his crate but will protest if he is in too long
🐾 Athletic: The perfect partner for hikes, runs, or any outdoor adventures!
🐾 Smart & Eager: Already learning so much in training and ready to be your best buddy.

The Ideal Home for Lakota:
✨ Someone who will not leave him crated for more than 6 hours. He needs to be crated when alone, as he does experience some separation anxiety but he is crate trained.
✨ A home with another playful, well-socialized dog to be his companion.
✨ Active individuals or families who can keep up with his energy and love for fun.

Lakota is full of love, potential, and a zest for life. If you’re ready to give this sweet, athletic boy the amazing home he deserves, please fill out an adoption application at www.retiredtorescue.org.
It is possible to meet him while he is in Board & Train and become a part of his training.

Lakota is ready to take on the world—will you be the one by his side? 💙

Additional adoption info

Once you see the pup of your dreams you fill out an adoption application:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeXPNq9voBZT2E0wYyxf240a7qdVNNoTfdL1dIAx-UpcoLy5A/viewform

Once approved, we will reach out to you to set up an "interview" but really more of a chat. If after our chat we agree to try a meet we schedule a meet and greet at your home. If the meet goes well the one week trial begins.

If after the week trial all parties agree to proceed with adoption, final adoption application is signed, adoption fee is paid and the pups medical records and microchip are transferred.

Even if after the official trial the adoption is not a great fit for any reason we will always accept dogs back under our rescue.
