My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Belle is a sweet and sensitive cat who has known only one home since she was a kitten, making her transition to the shelter a bit overwhelming. Shy and sound-sensitive, Belle takes a little time to feel safe in new environments, but once she does, her affectionate and playful nature shines through. She absolutely adores cheek scratches and enjoys attention, often approaching strangers for a friendly rub after warming up to them. In her previous home, Belle would sometimes greet visitors right away, while at other times, she preferred to observe and approach at her own pace. She’s a smart girl with a love for laser pointer games and gentle interactions, though she isn’t a fan of being picked up. Sudden, loud noises can startle her, so Belle would thrive in a calm, quiet home with adults or older children who understand her needs. With patience and love, Belle will reward her new family with loyalty, affection, and endless charm.

More about this shelter

The Maryland SPCA connects wonderful pets to loving owners. We are not affiliated with any national animal organization, and we do not receive any government or United Way funding. Our mission is to prevent cruelty and neglect of animals through fostering the humane relationship between animals and people. We operate primarily in the Greater Baltimore Metropolitan area.

To make sure that our dogs and cats do not contribute to the pet overpopulation problem, every one is spayed or neutered before going into a new home. The cost is included in the adoption fee, as are the costs of shots and other necessary care. In addition, a free Positive Pooch class is available to our dog adopters.

There is no set time limit for how long an animal can remain in our adoption program. As long as an animal maintains general good health and a sound temperament, we keep him or her until adopted. We pride ourselves on providing premium care to the animals in a clean, pleasant environment. Our adoption staff works diligently to pair up adopters with the best animal match for their homes and lifestyles.

We transport animals from other shelters to our adoption center to help more animals get adopted. We also help pet owners find new homes for their pets so their animals don’t need to enter shelter care.
