My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Petite and sleek, Rhaenys is sweet and shy and super gentle. It will take her time to adjust to new surroundings and people and animal friends. But in a calm and quiet environment, this loving girl will thrive. She would prefer a low noise, low traffic environment, with low key roommates.

In foster, she's currently with one other mature, chill cat. They coexist fine, but aren't buddy-buddy. There's been minimal hissing, but no fights.

In spite of her shyness, she does enjoy human company. If you're sitting quietly, she'll come over and sit next to you. She makes the cutest little trill sounds when you talk to or pet her. She likes to chat! And you know she's starting to feel safe with you when she flops on the floor and lets you gently pet her belly.

At first she seemed uninterested in toys for the most part. She was ignoring the wand and mice. But she loves to chase light and shadows. She likes balls and will bat and chase them around the floor when she's got the zoomies. She’s a bit of a night owl and is generally braver at night. She's a little shadow who likes to chase shadows.

She doesn't appear to be a picky eater. And she's brave enough to take food out of your hand when she trusts you. She may have experienced some food insecurity in the past as she does tend to eat a little too quickly (slow feeder may be needed for her) and it's one of the few times she has been hissy with another cat.

This cat can be adopted with a friend or as a single cat.

More about this rescue

Our rescue group was formed in December 2007, but all our Board Members have had extensive experience rescuing and working with abandoned animals. We often work with other rescue organizations to find appropriate and safe foster and adoptive homes for our pet clients. We regularly go to areas with abandoned animals and collect them. The animals are taken to a licensed veterinarian examined, treated and spayed or neutered. Every effort is made to work with the animal and our foster and adoptive families to find a suitable forever home.

For those animals who are truly wild and feral, we release the animal in a safe and secure location after it has recovered from its medical treatment. We also work with certified wildlife rehabilitators to rescue injured and orphaned wildlife. Our organization is focused on improving the welfare of the abandoned animals in need of help in Brooklyn. In furthering that goal, our resources are focused on the animals.

Aside from a few minimal overhead costs such as our website and phone services, our entire budget is spent on animal care such as medical and food costs.
