My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
Bucky was brought in by our Humane Law Enforcement team on 8/16/2024.

Why this pet is the one for you:
Meet Bucky!
Bucky is a sensitive soul who has made tremendous progress during his time in our care. When he first arrived, Bucky displayed some fearful behaviors as he adjusted to his new environment. Over time, he has built positive relationships with staff and shown significant improvement in his confidence and comfort.

Bucky would thrive in a calm, patient home where he can continue building his confidence. He has shown he can tolerate other dogs at a distance and may enjoy walks where he can explore his surroundings at his own pace. A household with children over 10 years old who can respect his boundaries and practice consent-based petting (pat, pet, pause) would be ideal.

Shy/Fearful Dog: Bucky requires a virtual behavior consult, please watch THIS VIDEO to learn about ways to make sure Bucky thrives in his new home.

Bucky has already come so far! He needs a loving family ready to provide him with patience, understanding, and gentle encouragement as he continues to bloom. If you're looking for a loyal companion who just needs a little extra care to shine, Bucky might be a great match for you.
Come meet Bucky at our San Diego Gaines Campus today!

At SDHS:

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
