My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Are you looking for the perfect house hippo? If you dream of having a hippopotamus for Christmas, look no further-our big boy Hippo is waiting for you at the Burnaby SPCA!
Hippo is a gentle giant who's searching for an owner to show him the love and kindness he truly deserves. He may be a bit of a sensitive soul at first, but once he feels comfortable, he'll quickly reveal his playful and happy side. While he takes his time getting to know new people, he's quick to show affection once he's settled in.

Hippo is calm around other dogs, though slow and proper introductions are always best to ensure everyone feels comfortable. He's a strong fellow but doesn't pull too hard on a leash, making him a great walking buddy. Hippo's ideal owner will be active and fit, as he's got plenty of energy to burn and would love a home that can keep up with him.
Hippo is a lovable and unique companion who would be the perfect addition to any family. Whether you're seeking a playful pal or simply someone to make your holidays a little brighter, Hippo is ready to bring joy into your life.

If you're looking for a loyal companion who's ready to give you his heart, Hippo just might be the perfect match! Come meet this big, lovable boy today!

Come meet Hippo at the Burnaby SPCA and see for yourself why he's the one you've been waiting for. Hurry, because only a hippopotamus will do for the perfect holiday season!

The BC SPCA is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for domestic, farm and wild animals in British Columbia. Through its locations and operations across the province the BC SPCA provides emergency medical care and sheltering for more than 37,000 animals each year. The society also conducts more than 4,600 cruelty investigations and provides a wide range of advocacy and education programs for domestic, farm and wild animals through its Provincial Office.

Our mission, vision and charter is at the heart of all we do to rescue, protect and care for animals. It is also the driving force behind our animal welfare and education programs.

    Our Charter:

The BC SPCA Charter is the foundation that guides the work we do:

    Whereas:

The world is inhabited by many species sharing a common ecosystem of air, earth, and water. We recognize and value our interconnectedness with all animals.

    Therefore:

The BC Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for the animals of the world we share.

We pledge our energies to inspire and mobilize society to create a world in which all animals, who depend on humans for their well-being, experience, as a minimum, five essential freedoms:

    1. Freedom from hunger and thirst

    2. Freedom from pain, injury, and disease

    3. Freedom from distress

    4. Freedom from discomfort

    5. Freedom to express behaviours that promote well-being.
