Age: 8 months
Weight: 36 pounds
This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped.
Zelda Stilwell is a eight month old shepherd mix who has faced some challenging times and she deserves the best of everything for the rest of her life. Despite being so young, she recently gave birth to a litter of four puppies. She was saved by a kind person who had been unable to catch her for weeks, but began leaving food out for the pregnant puppy. When Zelda gave birth, she brought the puppies to the woman who had been feeding her, and they were all rescued.
Zelda has been living in a temperature controlled kennel in a quiet foster home. She is very sweet and affectionate, but gets anxious whenever she isn't close to her puppies. She has been tolerant and interested around other dogs, but has had no exposure to children, cats, or small animals. She is friendly, but somewhat shy, around her adult caretakers. She is very protective of her puppies, who are also available at SOS.
Zelda is quite playful, and enjoys chew toys or rowdy games of chase. She is just a baby herself and likes to be cuddled. She will alert bark and likes to be a watchdog, letting her people know whenever there are strangers around. After so much time on her own as a stray, she is still adjusting to being confined in any way, and she absolutely hates being crated. If allowed to roam freely, she may try to escape, especially if she is frightened.
Her housetraining is in progress, and she is learning how not to be terrified of being on a leash. She barks and tends to be destructive if she is left alone. We strongly recommend obedience training for all of our dogs, especially puppies. Learning commands together is a great way for you and your new best pal to bond, and the puppy also gains confidence.
Zelda is a lovely young dog who will need a family with the patience to help her develop into a happy and relaxed adult. We believe that she will thrive in the right home and become your lifelong cherished companion!
An adoption donation is required for each adoption; please see HERE for more information about this.

**Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
