We got Kona when she was young, not sure of an exact age as she was a rescue from a shelter but she was less than a year old, estimated to be around 6 months. We have had her for nine years now, and in her older age has gotten more grumpy and less tolerant of high anxiety situations. We have a child with another one on the way and she cannot be trusted around our toddler. If she is by herself, she is relatively little work, mostly lays around and sleeps, likes to chase a ball outside, but does not do well with groups of dogs or children. She tries to control the situation with barking and seems stressed out and unpredictable. At her last vet visit in August she was in good health. Takes Prozac daily and gabapentin as her old age has given her plenty of aches and pains. I think she would do well in a lower stress environment. We just can’t trust her around our child and having her locked up in a room or crate all day isn’t a great life for her.
