My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We adopt all over the map! We offer transport as well, and can come to you if travel costs are covered no matter what state you are in ❤️
Meet Sugarplum ❤️ She is a 1 year of age purebred shih tzu. She weighs 8.1 lbs. Yes, she is full grown and at a very healthy weight. She is spayed, current on all vaccines, microchipped, had a dental cleaning done at time of her spay, and had a thourel exam with our vet whom had cleared her to find a home all her own!
She is pad trained, and will use pads if they are accessible to her. She is great about going outside to potty and if in a crate she will bark to let you know she needs to go to the restroom. We do always keep an eye on her outdoors due to her small size, as we have a lot of wildlife in our area and always want to make sure she is safe ❤️
She is crate trained, and has no issues at all going into a crate, but she has to have her bed in there because she loves to snuggle in it. She currently sleeps in her crate at night only but would love to be in your room at night in a bed all her own, or in your bed to snuggle if allowed to as she loves to be near her person whenever she can.
She is leash trained, and LOVES her walks around the neighborhood so if you are looking for a little friend to take daily strolls with she would happily join you every single time 😊
She is really good with other dogs, but does like being the princess as that's what she was in her last home prior to coming to us. She really likes to have the spotlight on her and to be the center of your world so to make her little heart happy we would love for someone to adopt her and show her that can take that title again in her next home ❤️ If you have another dog, or cat she would be just fine, but wouldn't be much of a companion to them as she would with her humans as that's truly where her heart lays at the end of the day 🥰
She does really well with men, women, and children alike but we would love to see her with someone who has the time to dote on her and give her the best life possible so if you have a lifestyle/family dynamic that would add to her life then she would definitely find her way into your world seamlessly!
She is NOT a barker, and will only bark when she needs to go outside to potty, or needs her water refilled. She is very communicative in that sense for sure! She is very independently natured and has no problem entertaining herself while you are busy tending to your day. She however does love when that day ends with nighttime snuggles ❤️
She is very patient and kind hearted. Loves to love, and to be loved. Loves treat time no matter what the treat is so we make sure it's plenty of fruits and veggies 😬 She loves it all!
Her prior owners were facing a big and unexpected move across country to be near their folks who were going through a lot of health scares. They didn't know what the future entailed for them, and didn't want to bring Sugarplum on such a rollercoaster. They wanted her life to be as happy as it was every other day without interruption so they decided to say their goodbyes as hard as they were and asked us to find her the best home again ❤️
She is wonderful on road trips. So if you travel, she would happily join in on the ventures ahead. She is wonderful during her spa days with our groomer and loves to be pampered hence her maintained princess title ❤️
Her adoption fee is on our website under her adoption listing at https://www.breadoflifek9refuge.org/post/sugarplum
It covers her spay, vaccines, microchip/registration, dental cleaning, additional anesthesia time/iv fluids, antibiotic shot given to aid in both her spay and dental, and her overall exam with our vet which went perfect. Aside from a routine dental cleaning and polish her teeth were in great health, along with her ears that were also examined and cleared.
As always her adoption fee also goes back into the care she has received from us since she has been with us, her grooming costs, and training that we have personally done with her 😊

Their adoption process

1.

Interview

We do phone interviews where we personaly speak to potential adopters so that we can get to know them thourely

2.

Home Check

If we are unable to make it to the adopters home due to distance, we will FaceTime, or ask for videos of their home/yard to ensure it's safe

3.

Meet the Pet

If everything goes well during the phone interview, and their home check is done, we will then schedule for the adopter to meet the pet

4.

Sign Adoption Contract

As long as the adopter agrees to our contract, they will be approved for adoption, and sign paperwork for the dog.

5.

Pay Fee

Adoption fee is always paid in person at time of adoption, unless other agreements are made due to distance to ensure adopter is committed.

6.

Take the Pet Home

Once all steps are completed the adoptive family will take their pet home as their own.

Additional adoption info

We are very personal throughout the entire adoption process and take the time needed with each individual adopter to ensure they recieve only the best from us and their new pet moving forward.

Adoption application

Go meet their pets

All adoptions are done privately. We don't do adoption events, we feel they are too stressful for our dogs, and in the past 13 years of our rescue work we have successfully rehomed hundreds of dogs one at a time.

More about this rescue

We are Bread of Life K9 Refuge. We are a small family owned, and family ran non profit rescue. We are faith based, and funded by Gods grace. He is the sole reason we are who we are today as we are doing Gods work Gods way one animal at a time. We also take in hospice cases, severe abuse and neglect cases, and many extreme medical cases such as hip/knee surgeries, cancer treatments, pancreatic patients, seizures, cataract removal, and the list goes on. If there is a way, we will find it and give every single animal that finds their way to us a chance at a new life whether through us by becoming part of our own family, or through the many wonderful adopters that come our way!
