My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Bear!
-2 year old Golden Retriever x Shepherd mix neutered male
-Came into the Shelter as an owner surrender after his previous guardian could no longer care for him
-Lived in a home with another dog (Chloe A317646) who is also up for adoption. Could be adopted as a pair but not required to be
-Lived in a home with children as young as 2 years old and did well
-Indoor / outdoor in previous home
-Crate trained in previous home
-Lived in a home with a dog-savvy cat previously and did well, although they would solicit play.
-Have met other dogs out in the world and coexisted nicely
-Still perfecting house training. An adopter that will manage Bear’s environment in the transition paired with positive reinforcement training for potty outdoors will be key to his success in learning where is appropriate to go.
-Sometimes jumps up for attention
-Knows “sit” and “lay down”
-Rides nicely in the car
-Would benefit from an adopter that enjoys an active lifestyle and is looking for a companion to join along for the ride

Now through December 23rd – the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter is hosting “Home for the Holidays”. This adoption event reduces the adoption fee for all cats, rabbits and dogs to $50.

Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
