My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

**Meet Alson!**

Alson is a calm and gentle giant with a heart full of love. He’s a friendly pup who enjoys meeting new people and snuggling up for a good cuddle. Though he’s relaxed most of the time, Alson can be a bit shy and nervous in new situations, so he’d do best in a home with older kids who can respect his boundaries and help him feel safe.

Alson has a quirky side that will make you smile—he loves to chew on paper towel rolls and doesn’t quite realize his size, often trying to curl up in your lap like a much smaller dog. He’s also a good boy who knows the “sit” command and has a positive history with other dogs (especially small ones) and cats.

Car rides can make him nervous, and he occasionally gets car sick, though cracking the windows seems to help. Alson does best with a consistent routine to stay housebroken, and he’s ready to settle into a loving home where his unique personality can truly shine.

If you’re looking for a sweet, quirky companion who’s big on cuddles, Alson is ready to be your new best friend!

More about this shelter

The Maryland SPCA connects wonderful pets to loving owners. We are not affiliated with any national animal organization, and we do not receive any government or United Way funding. Our mission is to prevent cruelty and neglect of animals through fostering the humane relationship between animals and people. We operate primarily in the Greater Baltimore Metropolitan area.

To make sure that our dogs and cats do not contribute to the pet overpopulation problem, every one is spayed or neutered before going into a new home. The cost is included in the adoption fee, as are the costs of shots and other necessary care. In addition, a free Positive Pooch class is available to our dog adopters.

There is no set time limit for how long an animal can remain in our adoption program. As long as an animal maintains general good health and a sound temperament, we keep him or her until adopted. We pride ourselves on providing premium care to the animals in a clean, pleasant environment. Our adoption staff works diligently to pair up adopters with the best animal match for their homes and lifestyles.

We transport animals from other shelters to our adoption center to help more animals get adopted. We also help pet owners find new homes for their pets so their animals don’t need to enter shelter care.
