My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Ziggy is an incredibly cute ball of cottony fluff that once comfortable in his new home, will climb into your heart (and lap) with a wag and a kiss. What isn't obvious in these unclear images (we've requested new photos and will post when received) is how truly beautiful this dog is with his sweet smile and shining dark eyes filled with so much wisdom.

At just about 6 - 7 years old and 24 lbs, Ziggy is a perfect size to accompany his family just about everywhere a sweet, smaller dog is welcome, He would love to join his people for backyard play, long walks enjoying the Colorado sunshine and end of day snuggles on the couch are perfect for this loving and sweet as can be little guy.

Ziggy is every bit the engaging dog once he's grown comfortable in his new environment. His nature is to be a happy and good-natured pup who falls deeply in love with his family. Ziggy will blossom when given a bit of time and nurturing. He will understand what pure love feels like and he'll be absolutely overjoyed!

Our wish for Ziggy is a family that understands, and is patient with a dog that has gone through trauma in his life. Farfel's has made a commitment to this wonderful pup, as we do to all our irresistible rescues, that we'll search until we find a forever family that loves, nurtures and respects him for the remainder of his life.

At this point in Ziggy's development, he would love to be a forever best friend, but will hold back a bit until comfortable, If treated with patience during his acclimation to his new family, this sweet guy will shine. We want to nurture a positive vision of the world by matching Ziggy to a family who expresses their devotion for him in many different ways. We'd like Ziggy to attend positive reinforcement / force free virtual or in-person group obedience classes to be the very best dog he's capable of being. These classes develop very strong bonds between a family and their dog as well as teaching skills to enable that dog to socialize in the world with appropriate behavior. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of both virtual and in-person positive reinforcement / force-free trainers in your area.

We feel that Ziggy would be most comfortable with an adult family (or older, dog-crazy kids would be perfect). He is a natural-born snuggler and a very loyal guy. We feel that Ziggy is too sensitive to be left alone while his family works full-time outside of the home. Retirees or those that work from a home-based office would be a great choice for our lovable Ziggy.

Right now Ziggy is a blank slate who will soak up positive feedback with every effort to be the best behaved and most cuddly guy around. Ziggy (once comfortable) is so loyal that he can easily be a constant companion. He would love nothing than backyard lounging and fun with his favorite people, trips to the store (he's a great window-shopping friend) or just lap-sitting at the end of a busy day would be perfect for this very loving guy. Ziggy will be flexible enough once comfortable that he can be introduced to virtually any situation, and if there is love and gentle guidance, he can succeed.

Ziggy has been shaved to rid him of the huge matts he had been plagued with for so long. His new, non-shedding coat will grow in with the shining, cottony-soft hair that speaks of the Shih Tzu breed. Ziggy will therefore require a lifelong commitment to periodic grooming (approximately every 10 weeks) and great nutrition (a daily salmon oil supplement and 5 star food will be perfect for longevity and hair care) to keep his coat healthy, soft as cotton and matte-free.

Ziggy has been fully vetted and vaccinated to support Farfel's commitment to adopting out only healthy dogs. He has also been neutered to be in line with our commitment to zero population growth in the canine community.

Ziggy will be arriving on transport in Boulder on Saturday 12/28/2024. Applications are currently being accepted and can be found at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/. If interested in this cuddly and sweet as can be best friend, please fill out our application completely and submit.

**PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting Ziggy please be sure to fill out our Farfel's Rescue adoption application found at the link above or at farfels.com. Adoption site applications such as Petfinder and Adoptapet don't provide enough information and therefore aren't useful. Our Farfel's application is the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving dog. We're sorry, but in many cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit our Farfel's Rescue adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Farfel's Rescue is a fully foster based rescue, and offers a one week trial with every adoption. We feel that this is much more beneficial to not only the dog, but the adopter too. We believe that only getting 20-30 minutes with a dog before deciding on a lifetime commitment is not a fair amount of time to the adopter, or the dog. Therefore we give adopters one week with the dog to assure it is the right fit, and offer a full refund of their adoption fee should it not workout within the week trial.

An Adoption Application and an Adoption Contract must be completed before any dog can begin their one week foster. Our average adoption fee is $695. This amount serves to cover vetting, spay/neuter, all vaccinations, temperament testing, transport, a microchip, harness, food, and treats.
Our dogs come from Texas, Kansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma and rural Colorado.

Adoption application

Go meet their pets

Pets are transported from the southern states every week. Almost 100% of the time, the dogs are spoken for as a result of adoption applications that can be referenced under Adoption at farfelsrescue.com. We study the applications. If the app indicates there is a match, followed up by a home visit and reference checks, the process moves to the next step. The adopter is committing to a one week foster (of course the dog can be returned at any time prior), and can then choose to finalize the adoption.

More about this rescue

We own a pet boutique named Farfel's Farm & Rescue on Pearl Street in Boulder, Colorado. We have had the good fortune to find our niche in the Boulder community and experience success. We felt it very important to "pay it forward" in gratitude. We couldn't think of a better endeavor than to save dogs who were out of time in the southern states, yet had been identified with great temperaments. We dedicate our efforts to their good health and ultimate wonderful, permanent homes.
