Valley is a cute female Pit Bull Terrier mix who was brought to the HSOV on January 24, 2024 after she was found on Mitchell Drive in the Newport Ohio area. Valley was 4-years old at that time and will soon be observing her one-year anniversary in our shelter. Valley's two 3-month old puppies (Everest and Meadow) had been brought in a few days earlier. They were healthy youngsters who found homes through rescue within a few weeks, but their little mother was extremely underweight and needed medical surveillance/attention.
This little lady has a beautiful charcoal gray coat with a large patch of white on her chest, white paws, a long tail, and an adorable face with soulful brown eyes, a blue/gray nose, and semi-erect ears. Valley has distinctive sunken/hollow spaces (possible muscle atrophy) above her eyes which gives her a sad facial expression but she is actually a happy girl.
Valley was very underweight when she arrived at our shelter and weighed just 25 lbs. She has been closely monitored by one of our wonderful local veterinarian hospitals for the past eleven months. Valley has recently been diagnosed with EPI [Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency] which is caused by her pancreas' failure to produce the enzymes she needs for proper food digestion.
Valley is being listed as a 'Special Needs Dog' for that reason. She is currently on a prescription dietary regimen to provide the enzymes to help with her food digestion .. And she is also receiving weekly B-12 injections for several weeks.
These photos of Valley were taken on December 16, 2024 shortly after she received an early Christmas gift of new Unicorn pajamas and posed for glamour pictures in front of the shelter Christmas tree. Valley LOVES to wear cute pajamas (and what girl/woman doesn't love to lounge all day in comfy PJs) (Smile) .. Valley has perfected her "please adopt me (and give me treats)" facial expressions. She melts the heart of everyone who meets her though she is now strictly forbidden from accepting any treats since they interfere with her digestive system and 'undermine' her special diet.
Valley 'sat pretty' on the floor scales after her photo session and kept looking at the weight results .. which happily was 33.2 lbs that day.
Valley loves to wear doggy pajamas, sweaters, and coats (which have become her 'trademark').
Valley has been enjoying her temporary home in the HSOV Executive Director and HSOV Shelter Manager's office, but we know that she would love to find a forever home with someone who could lavish her with attention 24/7 .. And could also provide Valley with the special food she needs to keep her EPI condition under control and to continue her weight gain/healthy diet regimen.
Valley's special dietary food (which is available only with a veterinarian prescription) consists of Hill's Prescription Diet Derm Complete (Dry Chow and Wet Canned) and Viokase-V (pancreatic enzymatic concentrated powder which is mixed with her wet food).
This special little lady truly deserves the best home ever~
