My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
Splish Splash was brought in by a community member on October 13, 2024.

Why this pet is the one for you:
Meet Splish Splash, the coolest red-eared slider around! This resilient turtle is bouncing back from a fishhook mishap and is now ready for a fresh start. Splish Splash is a stellar red-eared slider who's ready to beam herself into a new home! As an invasive species in California, Splish splash needs a prepared crew to ensure she lives out her days in comfort-without the chance to (slowly) make a break for it. While Splish Splash could settle into a massive indoor aquarium (100+ gallons), her ideal starship is an outdoor pond where she can swim, bask, and explore. The pond should be established and bioactive, or equipped with a high-tech filter to keep things as clean as the Enterprise. With a lifespan of over 20 years, Splish Splash needs a captain who can provide for her long-term mission. Her diet consists of turtle pellets, but it needs to be supplemented with an omnivorous, species-specific menu. And don't forget to install that tiny turtle fence Splish Splash- may try to go on a five-year mission of her own! Engage with Splish Splash today, and let her be the captain of your aquatic adventures! Don't forget to bring a secure carrier for a safe journey home!

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
