My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

I love to show off! I really love being in on the play with my brothers-Carmel and Chocolate, but will settle into some cuddle and naptime with my sisters-Pecan and Sugar. I am a little escape artist like my brothers, we like to run out of our playroom and go exploring around the cat area of the shelter. I like some of my siblings like to talk, and will go on and on when I want attention from my visitors. If you think you have room in your life for an outgoing girl like me please put in an application right now!

This kitten is too young to be spayed at this time and is also too young to receive her 1st rabies vaccination. Adopters are required to fill out a Kitten Addendum and a separate check for a $100 security deposit at the time of adoption, these serve as a 'promise' that the adopter will make sure the kitten receives their sterilization and vaccinations when they are old enough. The check will be returned to the adopter once we receive confirmation from a veterinarian that the kitten has been brought into their facility. Once an application is approved, we ask potential adopters to come to the shelter to visit the pet or pets they are interested in. If it seems like a great fit, then we would have you fill out the Adoption Contract and provide you with the pet's medical chart, some of the food it is currently eating, and offer any advice we can on that individual cat or dog.

Our shelter is located at 1471, US Highway 20 West, Elizabeth, IL, 61028. Our hours are: Monday - Saturday, 10am to 3pm. We can provide by-appointment-only visits from 3pm to 5:30pm. We are closed on Sundays.

Safe Haven is a small non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, located in Jo Daviess County and supported entirely by community donations & memberships. Our Board of Directors, Shelter Staff, and Dedicated Volunteers believe that together we can make a difference in the lives of cats, dogs, and the people who care about them.

Our mission at Safe Haven is to provide a haven and treatment for adoptable cats & dogs, place them in suitable homes, increase awareness of the humane treatment of animals and promote spay & neuter programs to reduce the overpopulation of cats and dogs in Jo Daviess County.
