My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Please read the bio in full for answers to your questions. In the event you have a
question that is not covered in the bio, please email info@seniordoghaven.org. If
interested in adopting, please complete an adoption application which can be found at https://seniordoghaven.org/adoption-process/.

Please note that because all our dogs live in foster homes, we are unable to set up meetings with a dog unless we have a completed adoption application on file. Adoptions must be within a reasonable distance from West Chester, PA for our volunteers to be able to conduct an in-person home visit.

Meet Max! Max is a 12-year-old, 15 lb., Westie/Poodle mix that was surrendered to a shelter by his owner. He had bad teeth, wasn’t neutered, and was absolutely terrified. We quickly brought him into rescue. Max received a dental and was fixed. He needed time to decompress and realize that no one was going to hurt him. With a lot of patience and love, Max started accepting head pets and treats.

Max has good vision and hearing. He is fully potty trained and will give a bark when he needs to go out. Max can be a bit afraid of the dark so he prefers company when going potty at night. He may be 12, but he has the energy of a dog half his age. Max loves to run and would highly enjoy a fenced-in yard. He is not yet comfortable on a leash.

Max can handle stairs and is pen trained. He happily sleeps in a fuzzy bed in his pen. Max can have some food and toy guarding behaviors so he needs to be the only pet in an adult-only home. He is a more independent dog and prefers to have a safe space of his own. As Max builds up trust with his forever family, and learns that life can be amazing, we have hopes that he will seek out more attention.

Max is a dog who needs to let go of his past and have a wonderful new beginning. He loves crunchy toys, getting treats, and zooming around the yard. If you have patience and can welcome this special pup into your home, please apply today!

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

The goal of Senior Dog Haven & Hospice is to find the best home possible for our senior dogs.  To assist us in this endeavor, SDH&H requires a fully completed application, references, and a visit to your home by one of our trained volunteers.  For this reason we only process applications within a reasonable commute from the dog's foster home.

Our adoption fee is $200, however we offer a discounted rate of $150 for senior adopters over the age of 65.

More about this rescue

We are a small, dedicated group of fosters and volunteers. We strive to improve the lives of senior dogs who find themselves without a family to care for them anymore. We do not have a facility. Our dogs live in our homes as members of our families. We provide care, comfort, companionship and, most of all, unconditional love. We have worked in senior rescue for years, and see the continuing and growing need to get them out of shelters where they are often euthanized because of their age and/or medical reasons, or from owners that find themselves in crisis and no longer able to care for their companions (nursing home, illness, abusive situations, etc).

Senior Dog Haven and Hospice is a registered 501(c)3. All donations to our rescue are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.
