Foster Home Feedback
12/8/24 Foster Feedback: Vidalia came to us straight from the pound. She was very scared and shut down. She did not go outside for the first 24 hours because everything was so scary and new. We wonder if she was an outside dog prior to coming into the rescue. We are working on house-training; she does not have cues for when she needs to go potty, so we are offering to go outside frequently. Our resident dog is trained to ring bells to go outside, so Vidalia is aware that the bells mean the door is opening so she will come to the door and go outside.
We attempted to crate her overnight, but after a few nights of no sleep due to barking and howling, she now sleeps on the floor in our bedroom all night quietly. She is crated while we are at work all day and while she is hesitant to go into the crate, she keeps it clean and does not destroy her bedding.
Vidalia is slowly learning that a harness and leash lead her to fun outings and walks. She walks well without pulling. I double leash her with her harness and leash since she is timid and backs up when scared. She is not afraid of loud noises (ambulance, blender, vacuum) but does react to sudden movement by retreating and "pancaking." Vidalia does not seem to be high energy. She has started to play with toys, but so far is not interested in tug or fetch; just solo play. She makes attempts to play with our resident dog, but our dog is selective and doesn't love to play. I do think Vidalia would benefit from another dog friend in her forever home to help her learn to be a house dog, gain confidence and a playmate.
She really is a sweet, affectionate, calm dog!
