My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Age: 4 Years Old

Gender: Female

Breed: Shepherd Mix

Weight: 39 lbs

Personality: Mayca is joyful and and a wonderful companion. She is a great mix of spunky and snuggly! She LOVES her walks - she trots around so happy to explore and meet people. She is friendly with people and does fine in a group of new faces. At night, she likes to chill out and snuggle. She has been going on runs with her foster and enjoying them! She is a happy girl who loves to love and be where people are. When you come home, you will be greeted with love and butt wiggles.

Education: Mayca is fully potty trained. She does okay in the crate. She will go in with some treats, but its not always her favorite! Her foster is practicing more crate training and she is progressing well. She is good on the leash.

Favorite Activities: Walking! Short runs, belly rubs, chewing her bone, snuggling her "babies" (soft toys), napping on the couch, meeting new friends

Looking for: Macya would thrive in a loving home that offers her opportunities to play, relax, and snuggle—her favorite activities! She’d enjoy a family that appreciates her happy-go-lucky nature and provides her with plenty of love and attention. While she hasn’t been fully tested with other dogs, her enthusiastic tail wags and playful demeanor suggest she’d likely enjoy having doggy friends. Macya is great with kids and patiently accepts all the kisses and hugs they have to give, making her a wonderful companion for families with children. Follow along @meet_mayca!

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We prioritize local San Diego applicants. We do not provide transport of dogs to other states, and don't allow the dogs to fly in the cargo of the plane.
Our adoption process from start to finish, involves 3 standard forms, and 2 situational.
All potential applicants must be capable of providing their adopted pet with routine and emergency veterinary care (yearly health checks, keeping vaccinations current, heartworm/flea preventatives, and immediate care in the event the animal is sick or injured). They are required to license their pet, and keep an identification tag on their pet at all times.
All applicants must agree to a home check, and provide us with a veterinary reference, or personal references if you're a first-time pet owner. Our home checks are not to invade the privacy of the applicants, we do this to ensure the pet is going into a safe home. We do not discriminate against non-homeowners, or those living in apartments, condos, or otherwise.
Our adoption fees vary from $150-1000.
Applicants must agree in writing that if for any reason they are unable to keep or care for their pet, the pet will be surrendered back to our rescue and not re-homed, turned over to a shelter, pound, rescue, new owner, sold, etc.

More about this rescue

Overview
The Animal Pad is a nonprofit, all-breed dog rescue devoted to saving the lives of dogs facing euthanasia at high kill animal shelters and off the streets of Mexico. We rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home locally.

We are dedicated to animal advocacy, and educating dog owners on the importance of spaying and neutering their pets. We are a foster based rescue, and rely heavily on the kindness and generosity of the amazing people who make donations toward the rescue and care of the dogs we save.

We are always looking for adopters, fosters, donations, volunteers, etc.. Please let us know if you would like to get involved by contacting us at one of the email addresses found below.
