My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Say hello to Moose!

He is an 8 year old mixed breed dog who weighs 85 pounds. This big boy is a gentle giant with a heart of gold. Moose is shy with new people and would need slow introductions to form a lasting connection. After some time and patience, Moose warms up and is ready to cuddle up for some love- and give you plenty of kisses!

He enjoys going outside and exploring on his walks, but he still needs time to adjust to new places, so he does best when his human companion is by his side. Moose has lived with dogs in the past and shows potential to live with dogs in the future if they`re a good match. With a slow introduction he could mate a great companion to another dog in his forever home. Due to his shy nature, if there are kids in his forever home they need to be ages 13 and older.

If Moose looks like the pup for you, stop in today to meet him before it`s too late!

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

All of our adoptable animals are up-to-date on all age appropriate vaccinations, spayed or neutered, de-wormed, de-flea and microchipped before adoptions are finalized. All dogs over six months of age receive a temperament assessment by our Certified Professional Dog Trainer to ensure appropriate placement. Also, many animals in our care receive basic obedience training to improve manners and increase adoptability.

We are currently doing adoptions by appointment only. Please contact us by phone at (234) 212-9843 or email at adoptions@summithumane.org, and an adoption counselor will return your message. They will review our adoption process, answer any questions, and tell you more about the animals currently available for adoption at our shelter and in our foster program. If we have a match for you and your family, an appointment will be scheduled to meet the animal.

Additional questions can be directed to our adoption team at (234) 212-9843.

More about this shelter

Since 1968, the Humane Society of Summit County (HSSC) has been the trusted caretaker and advocate for Summit County’s victims of animal abuse, neglect, and abandonment and stray animals suffering from illness and injury. We employ two full-time Humane Officers who respond to emergency calls, investigate animal cruelty, and, as warranted, prosecute offenders. We protect and care for our community’s abused, discarded, and forgotten animals. We strive every day to rehabilitate our rescued animals, find them great homes, and provide them with bright futures.
