My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Your Loyal, Loving Couch Potato

Hi, I’m Trixie! I’m a 5-year-old, 50-pound Doberman Pinscher mix with a golden heart and an irresistible love for belly rubs. Life hasn’t always been kind to me – I was rescued from a ruff situation at the ESLR  “shelter” in Ensenada – but now I’m ready to start my new life with you!

I’m the pawfect balance of mellow and playful. Most of the time, you’ll find me snoozing on the couch (I might even treat you to one of my cute little snores). Don’t let my relaxed vibe fool you – I still love my daily sniff walks! I’m great on a leash and never pull, but watch out if there’s a squirrel or bird nearby!

I have a few special skills up my sleeve… I mean, paw. I’m a great guard dog who’ll give a bark or two if someone’s at the door, but nothing excessive. And when it comes to routines, I’m a quick learner! I’ve done a great job adjusting to life with my furry foster sibling.  I’ve already nailed bathroom, crate, and leash training.

Like any cute girlie, I have a few quirks. I can occasionally get protective over my toys and food, so I’d do best with older kids who understand my boundaries. If I’m feeling bored, I might nudge your arm with my mouth to let you know it’s time for a walk or some playtime – but give me a toy, and I’m happy as can be! New noises like leaf blowers or cars in the rain can make me nervous, but a little soothing quickly reminds me that I’m safe.

Health-wise, I’ve got some arthritis in my knees, which means I move a little slower sometimes. Don’t worry – it doesn’t stop me from enjoying life! My foster mom gives me some meds to keep me comfortable, and I’ll be ready to snuggle or stroll whenever you are. I’m currently taking Gabapentin (~$15.00), Carprofen (~$5.00),  and Dasuquin Advanced Chewable Tablets Small to Medium Dogs (~$33.00).

What I love most in life is being close to my human. I’m the ultimate “velcro dog” who will sit by your side, rest my head in your lap, and gaze at you with love and gratitude. I’ve been through a lot, but I can’t wait to share my big heart with a family who loves me as much as I love them! What do you say? You bring the belly rubs and I’ll bring the unconditional love! You can also check me out on my foster’s Insta @alfiesfosterfriends

My adoption fee is $250 and that includes spaying/neutering, shots, and microchip. If you want to take me home, please fill out the form on the website here: https://theanimalpad.org/adoption-application/

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We prioritize local San Diego applicants. We do not provide transport of dogs to other states, and don't allow the dogs to fly in the cargo of the plane.
Our adoption process from start to finish, involves 3 standard forms, and 2 situational.
All potential applicants must be capable of providing their adopted pet with routine and emergency veterinary care (yearly health checks, keeping vaccinations current, heartworm/flea preventatives, and immediate care in the event the animal is sick or injured). They are required to license their pet, and keep an identification tag on their pet at all times.
All applicants must agree to a home check, and provide us with a veterinary reference, or personal references if you're a first-time pet owner. Our home checks are not to invade the privacy of the applicants, we do this to ensure the pet is going into a safe home. We do not discriminate against non-homeowners, or those living in apartments, condos, or otherwise.
Our adoption fees vary from $150-1000.
Applicants must agree in writing that if for any reason they are unable to keep or care for their pet, the pet will be surrendered back to our rescue and not re-homed, turned over to a shelter, pound, rescue, new owner, sold, etc.

More about this rescue

Overview
The Animal Pad is a nonprofit, all-breed dog rescue devoted to saving the lives of dogs facing euthanasia at high kill animal shelters and off the streets of Mexico. We rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home locally.

We are dedicated to animal advocacy, and educating dog owners on the importance of spaying and neutering their pets. We are a foster based rescue, and rely heavily on the kindness and generosity of the amazing people who make donations toward the rescue and care of the dogs we save.

We are always looking for adopters, fosters, donations, volunteers, etc.. Please let us know if you would like to get involved by contacting us at one of the email addresses found below.
