My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Aren't these the cutest set of puppies you've ever seen?! Chi Town Rescue took in mama Skittles and her eight puppies, a few days after they were born. Their owner was headed to jail and had no outlet for them. The puppies were born October 1, 2024 and there are four boys and four girls. The puppies and mama clearly look like Terriers, so we were surprised when we DNA tested Skittles and found out she is 48% Chihuahua! The other half of Skittles is a mix of 16 other breeds, including Bichon Frise and Poodle. We have swabbed a puppy and are pending their DNA results.

The puppies are adorable little fluff balls, full of cuddles, kisses, and mischief! ;-) Puppies are FUN, but please make sure you are ready for the commitment of adopting a young dog. Puppies become adult dogs and are meant to be loved for their whole life, not just until they grow up. Puppies will need lots of patience to help them learn their best doggy manners, leash-training, and house-training.

Adoption fees are $500 per puppy and include vaccinations, microchip, and eventual spay/neuter surgery at the PAWS clinic on Cave Creed Road in Phoenix. Per our vet, we do not alter puppies until around five months, which helps with hormone development and bone growth. Adopters will sign a contract that you will bring the puppies to the PAWS clinic for spay/neuter surgery, sometime in March 2025. The puppies will be getting their second set of vaccinations on Dec. 30th 2024 and will be available for adoption as soon as the second week in January. We are currently accepting pre-adoption applications. Please fill out our online adoption form at www.chitownrescue.org (https://www.chitownrescue.org/adoption-application.html). Please email chitownrescue@gmail.com for more information.

More about this rescue

"Chi Town" is short for "Chihuahua Town," which is our nick-name because we found that the majority of animals we were rescuing happened to be Chihuahuas and literally have a little “town” comprised of Chihuahuas! Chihuahuas are one of the most over-bred dogs in Arizona and unfortunately many end up in need of rescue. However, we are not limited to saving just Chihuahas, we do save other breeds dependent on availability of space. Chi Town also specializes in rescuing dogs who require a little extra TLC and are at risk of euthanasia at county shelters. These dogs may not be doing well for a variety of reasons- fear, fear aggression, anxiety, or a medical issue to name a few. These are the dogs that typically have no other outlet and for which time is of the essence . After our dogs are medically cleared and/or their behavioral issues have improved, they are available for adoption.

Please be aware that we do our very best to answer all questions in a timely manner.

We are always seeking to help promote these special Chihuahuas who are too often overlooked in AZ shelters due to the sheer volume of this breed. Please share and like us on Facebook:
