Introducing Sweet Potato (momma cat), Strudel (male kitten that almost died) and Strudel’s siblings who have since found their way to their own rescue story! After bringing this sweet family home is when the real work began. The whole entire family including Sweet Potato’s body temperature wasn’t what it should be. I continued to take temperatures and charted those. After two days Sweet Potato’s and all the kittens temperatures were where they should be. Little Strudel's on the other had fluctuated back and forth for a week. It was a struggle to keep it up so I could keep it up to feed him every two hours. Once I got his temperature stable and it stayed that way he got to permanently nurse just with his momma Sweet Potato. But Strudel’s struggles weren’t quite over. Within a week 2/3 of his little tail fell off; then within five days after that he lost one of his back hind paws. We believe this was due to frostbite and not enough circulation to those areas while laying in the cold concrete for so long. Strudel doesn’t let anything stop him from being a normal playful kitten. Strudel’s story is a quick reminder of the harsh reality of kittens being born in cold temperatures and the reality of those consequences. All of his complications came from 30 degree temperatures! Can you imagine lower temperaturesAs always before adoption, all cats are spay/neutered, tested for FeLV/FIV, given distemper and rabies vaccines if old enough, flea and dewormer treatments if necessary.
