My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Age/DOB: 7-18-2013

Hi there! My name is Pyewacket. I am a 9 year old fabulous tabby and white kitty who is seeking a new fur-ever home ♥ (I’m a tad chonky but I’m working on that). Let me tell you a little bit about myself. I was born outdoors and as a kitten I was taken in by a really sweet lady. She noticed that I had an issue with one of my back legs and took me to the vet. The vet wanted to amputate my leg, but she would not let them. The vet said I have a “dropped hock” and that that was what was causing me to have a sore by my “heel”. Fast forward a number of years and my caretaker and I both aged and learned to work with my leg. However, my human became frail and could no longer take care of me. My human had a friend whose daughter works with a fabulous place that could take me in and help me try to find a new place where I could be the queen of a castle, as I’m used to being.

Purrs & Whiskers took me to the vet, had bloodwork done to make sure I was healthy and had my teeth cleaned. The bloodwork showed that I needed to be taking Thyroid medication. I’m such a good girl when taking my AM/ PM meds. There’s no fussing at all! I hear the people who care for me discussing what a good girl I am and that the thyroid medication is SO affordable. I don’t understand what $10/ month means, but it must be good. Then my new rescue friends set out on a mission to try to figure out how to make my “heel” less sore. They consulted a few veterinarians and a place called DogLeggs and developed a plan! The great people and DogLeggs made a custom heel protector for me called a hock sock. They even had an extra one made so there would be a back up in case one needed washing. In the mornings and evenings my rescue friends put padding in the inside of my hock sock so when I jump down from the bed I don’t get a heel sore. I’ve never felt so good and I’m ready to live my best life in a great new home.

While I did not live around dogs, one of my kitty-sitter's house has a big, 70# gentle pup and I do not react to her.  I'm OK with a passive cat that doesn't want to get in my face or play, but am purrfectly happy being the an only kitty.  I also haven't been around kids, so I’m thinking I’d prefer to be the one-and-only fur or 2-legged kid in my new home. I do enjoy cuddles & head scritches, sleeping in bed with you, being brushed and soaking up sun beams. When no one is watching I sneak in a romping or two with catnip toys too! I have a lot of life and love left in me… I hope you’ll give me a chance to show you how much!  OH... and did I mention how much I LOVE Churu kitty treats??  Nom nom nom!

I have had a full geriatric blood panel and a dental cleaning. I take a thyroid medication twice a day and don't mind that at all! I am also spayed, tested negative for FIV/ FeLV, microchipped, dewormed, treated with Revolution, and am up-to-date on age-appropriate vaccines.

More about this rescue

Purrs & Whiskers, Inc. is a non-profit organization serving Stafford, Virginia and its surrounding areas whose mission is to employ the best practices of the TNR (Trap, Neuter, Return) philosophy and for those deemed adoptable, we provide temporary foster care while actively seeking a loving permanent living situation. This is accomplished by providing compassion, daily nourishment, and basic wellness care for both individual cats, as well as colonies of free-roaming, homeless cats living outdoors. When feasible, we will collaborate with local shelters in an effort to relieve over-crowding by identifying and adopting out shelter cats into appropriate, permanent living situations.
