Meet Margherita! Rita is a sweet, resilient kitten with a heartwarming story of survival and strength. She had a tough start in life, but thanks to love, care, and her own determination, she’s now thriving and ready to find her forever home.
Rita was rescued along with three of her littermates, but it quickly became clear that something was different about her. While her siblings weighed a healthy 3–4 pounds at just three months old, Rita was a tiny 1 pound. She struggled to keep food down, often throwing it up painfully after eating, which explained her size.
After several vet visits, Rita was diagnosed with a condition called PRAA (Persistent Right Aortic Arch), which required life-saving surgery. But before the procedure, she needed to gain weight—no easy task for a kitten who couldn’t eat normally. For two months, her dedicated foster family spoon-fed her a liquid diet to help her grow stronger.
Thanks to the incredible generosity of donors, Rita underwent surgery at OSU, and it was a complete success! She’s been thriving ever since, acting like a completely normal kitten—as if nothing ever happened. Now, she can eat both wet and dry food without any trouble and enjoys all the playful antics of a young cat.
At 7 months old, Rita is a petite 5 pounds and will likely remain on the smaller side. Her energy levels are through the roof—she loves chasing strings, play-wrestling with her foster brother, and zooming around the house. When it’s time to relax, she transforms into a cuddle bug, purring contentedly on her foster mom’s chest.
While Rita is doing great, her new family should be prepared for the possibility of future complications related to PRAA, though she may remain perfectly healthy for the rest of her life. Regular vet checkups will help ensure she continues to thrive.
Rita would do well in a home with other cats, as long as they are introduced properly. She’s a playful, affectionate kitten who’s ready to bring joy and love to her forever family. Could you be the one to give Margherita the happy ending she deserves?
Margherita is 7 months old, spayed, vaccinated, flea treated, dewormed, microchipped, and tested FIV/FeLV negative.

Adopting a cat is a big responsibility and commitment, but it's also one of the biggest acts you can ever do for an animal in need.
Each and every cat in our care has their own story and background. They are all fully vetted, fixed, vaccinated, microchipped, and FIV/FeLV negative (unless otherwise specified). Because of this, our adoption fee is $95 for one cat over 1-year-old or $155 for 2 and $110 for one cat under 1-year-old or $195 for 2.
Our approval process includes a vet reference (personal reference if you've not had a vet in the last 5 years), virtual home tour, and landlord approval should you be a renter.
The completion of an application does not guarantee approval for adoption.
