Examples: Ozzy Bear has been caught staring at his reflection in the mirror and we suspect he was wondering, “Who’s that handsome devil?” His favorite hobbies include stealing all the toys he can find (sometimes hilariously carrying two at a time), and curling up in a cat bed that's way too small, but was the closest soft spot to take a snooze.
Ozzy Bear loves road trips, whether it's a quick drive to the park or an all-day adventure. He is mastering his house manners, and when he's not practicing "sit" (usually by sitting... in your lap), he’s busy making the world his playground. Due to Ozzy Bear's exploring nature and boundless energy, he must be in a home that has a secure fence (4 foot min).

An adoption coordinator will review your application to ensure your situation matches the needs of the animal you're interested in. If completing an application online, please note, every question must be answered on the application for it to be reviewed by an adoption coordinator. As part of the review process, we'll request references. Because we are an all-volunteer organization, it may take up to 48 hours for an adoption coordinator to contact you.

Henrico Humane Society is an all-volunteer, foster-based,
non-profit organization that rescues dogs and cats from
across Central Virginia and places them in loving, forever
homes.
HHS has saved hundreds of animals each year since
1991. Many of the dogs and cats we rescue come from
shelters in rural areas where they have fewer adoption
opportunities. The majority of the animals in our care live
with foster parents until they find a permanent home.
We don't have a shelter and most of our animals live in foster homes until they're adopted, which allows us to get to know their personality and temperament. Applicants are carefully screened to ensure we find the right forever home for the dogs and cats we rescue.
