Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Velarde! As distinguished as his name, are his looks AND personality! Other than when he decides it's time to rock & roll with some playtime, then you'll be met with a whole new side of him! Full of exuberance, joy, and such eagerness that no other dogs can ever seem to match! At about 4 years old, Velarde currently weighs in around 60 pounds, he's finally filled out, and such a perfect size for most sporting & activities! With his big puppy dog eyes fixated on whomever his attention is directed to, he is handler-oriented; to a T, and doesn't often break his focus unless it's just too overwhelming here at the shelter! What's even better about him, he seems to understand when it's time for a break, and he will happily rest at your feet, on one of our raised beds, and occasionally goes for the laps! Especially, especially when there are kids around! Velarde's loyalty doesn't waiver from species either! He enjoys other dogs, even though being a typical mal, his type of play is herding. That's okay, he is a playgroup all-star with our other dogs, ranging from small to big, young to senior, he matches anyone's energy, whenever it's needed! We KNOW Velarde will make a phenomenal fit with just about ANYONE with a lifestyle that can fulfill a Mal, & we may be a little envious of those that do, as he's an AMAZING boy, absolutely sure to please all that he can!

More about this shelter
We are a non-profit organization out of Monticello, IA specializing in the care for dogs and cats that need us. Our care does not stay local, as we take transports from all over the United States, and adopt all over as well!
Our mission's primary focus is to help reduce the homeless pet population by finding homes for spayed/neutered pets, and helping educate WHY this process is so important, and the proper way to care for pets!
