My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You guys…I cannot express in enough words how much I love Layla Michelle. She is not only my personal favorite but she is a staff and volunteer favorite too. When you meet Layla she instantly loves you. There is no second guessing or hesitation with her. It's love at first sight with everyone she meets and that is not an exaggeration. There is one thing that people have in common when they first meet Layla. They always comment on how sweet and loving she is. She is the definition of a soul dog. Lalya also has the cutest little underbite and bubble bottom lip. You'll catch it peaking through from time and it just adds to her beauty. She is a beauty queen, if you didn’t already know. Layla has this GORGEOUS jet black coat with a little white underbelly and these beautiful gold brown eyes that light up in the sunlight.

Watch her video and you'll instantly fall in love: https://youtu.be/lMvE8yHCkPU?si=BzIZMQ8XvgsZrloJ

With her big, soulful eyes and those endearing pittie moves, Layla is easy to adore! We believe that Layla is a 4 year old pittie mix of some sort, but she is a rescue, so these are just our best guesses! At 60 pounds of pure love, she's mindful of her size—she's the perfect cuddle companion without the bulldozer effect. She is so gentle when she loves, just watch out for those famous kisses of hers. She loves to give kisses and will even sneak in a french kiss. She’s cheeky that way. Layla is by far one of the friendliest dogs I have ever been around and she loves every single person that she meets. You can be a complete stranger and Layla already loves you. I have seen her walk up to people that she has never met before and she instantly lights up and tries so hard to get their attention to get them to love on her and ultimately she wins. Layla approaches people with the happiest tail wag that her whole body wiggles and like it’s a “please love me wiggle.” She will then lean her whole body up against yours, sit in your lap like she’s a lap dog and embrace all of the hugs you give her. She literally melts into you! She’s a dog that loves hugs. Layla is also a huge cuddle bug! She will lay right on top of you if you let her like she’s your very own weighted blanket and she will lay there for hours if you let her. So if you’re having a lazy movie marathon day, Layla will happily join you with no arguments. I know this because she layed on me for a good solid 20 min and it was so nice and relaxing. She has this comforting effect on people. Even if you’re just sitting with her out in the yard, she’ll sit right there next to you just enjoying the sunshine and enjoying your company. She is good company to have around. Yes she is a total snuggle bug and loves affection, and loves to be around you but she also knows how to relax when you’re busy making her a great work from home companion. When we have meetings at the office she’ll go and say hello to everyone and then will go find her a cozy spot to lay down on. She’s quiet too which makes it that much easier to have around when you are working from home. Layla is not the type of dog that you have to constantly keep your eyes on because she is getting into things she is not supposed to. She minds her business and if she ever is doing something that you don’t want her to do, all you have to do is say her name and she is right back by your side. She is also not opposed to the occasional game of dress up. This girl is so tolerant you can dress her up in anything. You can see it in her video. She'll happily pose with sunglasses on, a wig, will let you put tutus on her, cute little hats, you name it! Anything to make you happy. Layla checks off all of the boxes, she truly is a special girl.

Layla is dog friendly and has been around a wide variety of other dogs. She does attend daily supervised playgroups here at the rescue and she has been doing great. When she’s out in public on a walk and sees other dogs, she passes them gracefully and only wanting to stop or pull if she sees a person she wants to meet. Although is dog friendly, Layla prefers to be your one and only dog in the house. Don’t worry though, she has enough love with the equivalent of 5 dogs combined to share so there will be no shortage of snuggles or kisses with Layla. She does great out in public too walking past other dogs and next to dogs on walks. Cats are also furry friends to Layla. She has been fostered with 3 cats in the home previously with no issues reported from the fosters. Even with the grumpiest of cats she does great. Dog savvy cats that are use to big dogs will be best in the home with Layla. We do suggest that if you have cats in the home and are interested in adopting Layla, that introductions are slow and monitored as with introducing any animals to one another.

This girl is known for more than just her good looks and snuggly loveable nature, she has brains too! Layla is so smart and eager to please. You can see it in her eyes how badly she wants to make you happy and how eager she is to do it when you tell her a command or you’re teaching her a new trick. She already knows how to sit, lay down, and has been learning how to paw, crawl and the place command as well. Layla walks well on a leash, hardly ever pulling and on the occasions that she does pull, it’s to go greet another person. So be prepared when you’re out on a walk, this girl is going to want to say hello to everyone she sees. Layla loves toys and knows how to play fetch too! Watching her play fetch with her people is such a joyful experience. She’ll bounce and bunny hop in the air and she is just so happy. She is a girl that enjoys the simple things in life and takes nothing for granted. Everything is the cherry on top for her.

Layla is kid friendly and has been around kids as young as 8 months old. She is very gentle and respectful around them. She has personally been around my 8 month old son and I was not worried about her at all. She gave him sweet gentle kisses, wasn’t jumpy around him, and wasn’t all over him trying to love on him. Although Layla has been around young kids, the sudden movements from toddlers and loud noises can startle her so we believe she would do best in a home with kids 10 years and older. Layla could be a good fit for just about any type of home. If you are a semi active person that likes to go on hikes, go camping, take trips up to the mountains, Layla can easily be that companion for you. She rides great in the car, does great out public and loves when you stop by her favorite places that offer pup cups. Or if you prefer nice leisurely walks around the neighborhood and hanging out in your backyard, Layla can do that too. Overall, she has a pretty mellow and calm energy with the occasional bursts of energy that a simple walk or game of fetch can easily fill her cup. We also believe she could do well in a larger apartment or condo with adequate exercise. If your someone that likes to host and have friends over, Layla would absolutely love that as well! She's the perfect furry companion to have around for bbq hang outs in the back yard or the perfect companion to have around for girls night. She will fit right in! Whether it's an apartment or a house, Layla’s not picky—just give her love, toys, daily walks, and snuggles. She's just waiting for her forever family to spoil her with love, toys, and couch time.

We are willing to test Layla Michelle with anything you need us to in order to ensure she’s the perfect match for you! We can make anything happen! Just let us know.

https://g.co/kgs/UQ5Pyai We care deeply about making the perfect match between dog and family for long term success.

Our rescue has a 2 acre property in Texas where we assess every animal with trainers on staff, we modify behavior as needed, and create individualized behavior plans to help prepare dogs for their future families including crate training, potty training, leash walking, etc. Our fosters are able to attend group trainings and socialization play groups to keep dogs adoption-ready. Our on-site trainers support the positive growth of our dogs and we enjoy seeing their progress!

Our commitment to comprehensive medical care sets us apart. We've received glowing feedback from veterinarians who commend our dedication to ensuring the health and well-being of every animal in our care with treatments that often go above and beyond.

Our adoption fees reflect the extensive care and resources that go into each animal we save. The adoption fee is a donation to the mission and goes far beyond getting a fully vetted pet.

The rescue’s hard costs alone (excluding transport) for a healthy dog to go through our program typically range between $412 to $859, which includes boarding, food, medications, vaccines, and spay/neuter. For heartworm-positive dogs, hard costs are upwards of $1,368. Additionally, dogs requiring extended boarding, extra training, or extra medical care—such as dental work, vision care, or orthopedic care—can lead to expenses running into the thousands. Also, included in the adoption fee are costs to cover transport up to the Pacific Northwest or East Coast. Transport is a significant additional expense to the rescue.
While adoption fees help cover part of these expenses, we want to emphasize that the rescue does not receive government funding and must fundraise to offset the remaining expense balance which ranges $100-1,000++ per animal on these direct costs.

It doesn’t stop there! Our adopters also receive these SPECIAL PERKS:

Did you know that the Greater Houston area faces some of the highest stray and overpopulation rates in the nation? We are a non profit charity. Our goal is simple— to reduce the homeless pet population through community outreach, free spay and neuter services, and by rescuing animals from the streets or overcrowded shelters where euthanasia due to lack of space is often the only option. The dog you've found online is not only lucky to be in our program, but also incredibly fortunate to have caught your eye. Thank you for considering adoption and for joining us in our mission!
