My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Adoption fee for one mouse is $10, each additional adopted at the same time has a discounted adoption fee of $5.

Hmm, feels like it might rain! Oh hi- I bet you didn't know that we mice use our whiskers to feel surfaces and detect changes in weather! Another cool thing we can do is communicate with each other using ultrasonic sounds the human ear can't detect.

As well as being super interesting, we're also super adorable. We like to tuck ourselves into small places- give us a box to hide in and we'll fluff up our bedding into a soft nest. Mice like me eat all kinds of things! You should buy us a seed mix from the pet store and then as a treat you can give us small amounts of fresh fruits and vegetables.

An exercise wheel in our cage helps keep us fit and healthy. You can keep us busy with things to crawl through and chew on- cardboard tubes make great and inexpensive toys!

Housing requirements: Most housing sold at pet stores is too small for small pets. They are going to be spending most of their lives inside their cage; your housing must be as large as the below or larger (bigger is always better!) in order to adopt this pet.
1-2 mice: 10 gallon aquarium with wire mesh cover
3-6 mice: 20 gallon aquarium with wire mesh cover
It is always recommended to get the largest size you can afford.
Mice typically escape from any cage with bars.

Mice are a social species, meaning the company of their own kind is critical to their health and well being.
If there are two names listed together (eg Peanut Butter w/Jelly), that means that the two animals are a bonded pair of friends, and must be adopted together.
If there are more than two animals listed together (eg Peanut Butter w/Jelly and Toast), the group is to be adopted together. If there are 4 or more listed together, they can be adopted in pairs or trios - we just can't leave a single alone.
Got a single at home you're looking for a friend for? Any mouse listed alone on our website is a single and a great candidate; if there is a group of 3 or more, usually one can be taken out of that group as a companion for your single.
Mouse friends must be same sex, unless your current single is already neutered.
Unneutered male mice who are singles will not appreciate another male mouse friend. Male mice usually only get along if they grow up together.
A new friend will need a separate cage until friendship has been established

If you're ready to adopt within the next 24-48 hours and want to learn more about, meet, or adopt this pet, you can start the process by completing ALL of the following steps:
1. Click on the pink "Adopt me" button to submit an adoption inquiry
2. Watch your email for a response from us!
3. Your email will have a link - use the link to schedule an adoption counseling call with us, where we'll answer your questions and review the pet's information with you!
4. Please email us about your housing for this pet before your phone call. Send a photo of your housing as well as its dimensions to springfield@dakinhumane.org. Please ensure the housing meets the minimum requirements outlined here. Bigger is always better when it comes to small pet housing!
**Adoption inquiries are not holds or reservations. Pets are adopted by the first person we talk with who is a good match for the pet's needs. Multiple inquiries are accepted for each pet.
If the pet you are inquiring about has already been adopted when we call you for your adoption counseling phone call, we'll be happy to take a look at our other adoptables, and see if someone else may be a perfect match for you!**
