My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

SWEET, SHY & NEEDS PATIENCE:  Approx. 7 years old / Approx. 13 lbs.

Hi, I’m Elsa!  I came to Mostly Mutts from a home that had a lot of dogs that weren’t properly socialized.  We needed help when our dad had to go into hospice care, so Mostly Mutts was able to take me, and quite a few other dogs into their program. Now I’m ready to find a new home and family of my own that understands my situation and will give me lots of time to settle into my new home.  I was adopted for 2 days but returned when I bit my mom over being picked up quickly when I just wasn’t ready for that, and I was so afraid. So, I need a family that will be patient with me and will give me lots of time to feel safe and secure in my new home.  I needed a good dental cleaning which I received thanks to a grant from The Grey Muzzle Organization!

• OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS:  I haven’t met other dogs at Mostly Mutts yet, but I came in with other dogs that I liked, so if you have a dog at home already, let’s meet! / Cats unknown. / I haven’t met kids at Mostly Mutts, but due to my fearful nature, and bite risk, Mostly Mutts recommends calm teenagers only, so if you have kids like this, let’s meet.

• PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL:  I am very scared but also very sweet once you give me time to get comfortable with you.  Please don’t rush me, as I just wasn’t socialized properly in my previous home, so I need time to feel safe and comfortable with people.  Once comfortable, I seek out attention and am a friendly girl who is getting used to being loved.  I’m not used to being picked up, held and loved – but I am getting there with patience and not being rushed!  I’ve spent a good part of my life being a momma dog.  Now, I am looking forward to that being behind me and just being a loved family member! / My energy level is currently 3-5.

• SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY:  I am a student in the Mostly Mutts University training program and look forward to learning a lot with my trainer!  Check back soon to see what I've learned. / I am new to the crate. / I've been having some accidents on the shelter schedule, so please continue to be consistent with me on a good schedule, so I can master my potty skills.

• LIKES/DISLIKES:  Once I know and trust you, I enjoy neck and head rubs, and – though I am not interested in toys, I bet you can show me how much fun they can be. / I don’t want to be rushed into a relationship as I need extra time.  I would not be happy in a home with a lot of commotion or too many people coming and going as I need a nice quiet home.  I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, and training once I feel at home.

• MEDICAL:  I'm current on vaccinations, micro-chipped and spayed.  You’ll notice that my right pupil doesn’t contract properly.  It’s a congenital condition and I can see out of the eye with a little vision loss in that eye.  Since I'm a Dachshund, I naturally have a long back which is subject to injury, so please don't allow me to jump on and off furniture so we can keep me safe and healthy. I’m getting medicated baths twice a week for a little while to help with my skin and these can be done in my new home with patience.  (I’ve done well with these at MM with the bather who is kind and gentle with me and gives me time to get used to her.) I’ve started an anxiety medication to help me with the stress I’m feeling.

I am looking for a wonderful patient family to give me a living furever home!  My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.

Mostly Mutts Animal Rescue & Adoption's Adoption Process

Our facility is currently open to the public Monday-Saturday, 11-3. We welcome you to come meet our adoptable Mutts & Kitties! Please keep in mind the following:

Many of our adoptable Mutts & Kitties are in foster homes, so please call 770-272-6888 to find out if the pet you are interested in is at our facility. With an approved application we can set up meet & greets and adoptions with a pet in foster care.

Our adoption counselors are happy to help make a great match for you and your family!

Adoption Info:
Please submit an application through our website at www.mostlymutts.org if you are interested in one of our adoptable pets. Who We Are:

Mostly Mutts is a 501(c)3, non-profit organization, staffed almost entirely by volunteers!

Our Mission is to help the Unwanted, Abandoned, Abused and Sick animals in our local counties. We fulfill this mission by working closely with County Animal Control Facilities, saving those who are in imminent danger of euthanasia, or those with needs which require specialized vet care that many other groups will not consider: major orthopedic issues, heartworm positive treatment, skin conditions, neglect and abuse
