My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Your Cuddy Couch Companion!

Hi, friends! I’m Maddie, a 3-year-old, 35-pound Terrier mix with the sweetest soul. I had a ruff start in life, rescued from Ellos Son La Razon in Ensenada, Mexico  with hundreds of dogs in terrible conditions. Despite everything I’ve been through, I’m ready for my next chapter – one filled with love, patience, and cozy blankets (lots of them, please)!

I’m on the shy side, but give me time and I’ll start to show you my goofy, playful bursts. I’m happiest curled up on the couch, nestled in a pile of pillows and blankets like the burrito I was born to be. My foster family says I’m a quiet girl – no unnecessary barking here!

I’m really starting to enjoy walks, especially when I get to stroll alongside my furry foster sisters. I don’t need long hikes or big adventures. Loud noises can still make me a bit nervous. Car rides? Not my thing.  I’d much rather wait for you at home where I can kick back and relax.

I’m bathroom trained (as long as I get my two walks a day), I don’t have any separation anxiety, and I’ll happily keep myself entertained while you’re out! Crates? I don’t mind them, but I don’t need one either.

I’m dog-friendly and think I’d really thrive with a calm doggy sibling or two to keep showing me the ropes. Cats and kids? Not sure yet, but I’m so gentle it might be worth a try. I just need a family that understands I might get spooked by sudden movements. Sometimes I “pancake” to the ground when I’m unsure, but can be guided out of it with positive reinforcement.

My perfect furever home would be mellow, in a quieter area where I can continue gaining confidence.

If you’re looking for a laid-back, loving companion who will melt your heart a little more every day, then I’m your girlie! Let’s start this next chapter together – blankets, popcorn, and snuggles included. You can also check me out on my foster’s Insta (I have my own highlight!) @__nalabeans__

My adoption fee is $350 and that includes spaying/neutering, shots, and microchip. If you want to take me home, please fill out the form on the website here: https://theanimalpad.org/adoption-application/

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We prioritize local San Diego applicants. We do not provide transport of dogs to other states, and don't allow the dogs to fly in the cargo of the plane.
Our adoption process from start to finish, involves 3 standard forms, and 2 situational.
All potential applicants must be capable of providing their adopted pet with routine and emergency veterinary care (yearly health checks, keeping vaccinations current, heartworm/flea preventatives, and immediate care in the event the animal is sick or injured). They are required to license their pet, and keep an identification tag on their pet at all times.
All applicants must agree to a home check, and provide us with a veterinary reference, or personal references if you're a first-time pet owner. Our home checks are not to invade the privacy of the applicants, we do this to ensure the pet is going into a safe home. We do not discriminate against non-homeowners, or those living in apartments, condos, or otherwise.
Our adoption fees vary from $150-1000.
Applicants must agree in writing that if for any reason they are unable to keep or care for their pet, the pet will be surrendered back to our rescue and not re-homed, turned over to a shelter, pound, rescue, new owner, sold, etc.

More about this rescue

Overview
The Animal Pad is a nonprofit, all-breed dog rescue devoted to saving the lives of dogs facing euthanasia at high kill animal shelters and off the streets of Mexico. We rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home locally.

We are dedicated to animal advocacy, and educating dog owners on the importance of spaying and neutering their pets. We are a foster based rescue, and rely heavily on the kindness and generosity of the amazing people who make donations toward the rescue and care of the dogs we save.

We are always looking for adopters, fosters, donations, volunteers, etc.. Please let us know if you would like to get involved by contacting us at one of the email addresses found below.
