Meet Gemma! This petite 13 lb female miniature schnauzer has quite the personality and spunk you would never guess. In October, she was rescued from a horrific, illegal puppy mill in Busan where she was forced to breed continuously under dire conditions. Gemma is one of almost 600 dogs saved through the efforts of Korean K9 Rescue and our incredible partners. Now thriving in foster care, Gemma is looking for her forever family. Adopting a puppy mill survivor like Gemma has unique rewards and responsibilities. She has shown incredible resilience and a bright spirit, but dogs from these backgrounds often require patience and time to decompress and adjust to a loving home. While Gemma is currently healthy and has received excellent veterinary care, potential adopters should be aware of the genetic predispositions common in dogs from such environments, back disease (IVDD) common with the dachshund breed, including luxating patellas, heart conditions, dental issues, etc., that could arise later in life, and prepare both financially and mentally to help Gemma live an everyday happy life.
