Approximate DOB 4/1/2021

Approximate Adult Size - Small about 10.9 lbs

History- This sweet girl was a stray. When the shelter got her in she was very matted. We don't know what caused her to end up on her own but at some point somebody loved her. She loves attention. She is scared of children but if they are quiet and gentle she calms down and will hang out with them. She is a little odd but not in a bad way - she is obsessed with movement. We have a video up on our facebook age to show her with feet while you are walking. She will need someone stable that can watch their feet at least initially. She loves to play and even believes the other dogs want to play with her when they don't. She is just a very special, very sweet girl. She still acts very young and playful- loves the hand game where she attacks your hand to play (does not bite hard just attacks with her paws). She is just super cute.

Temperament- Super sweet, loves toys, and loves to lean and get as many pets as possible. She is a very quiet, sweet, gentle little girl who just wants to be loved.

Energy Level- She is very active but doesn't run off or anything she just likes to play with her person and follow you around staring at your feet as you walk.

Dogs/Cats- Ignores the cats completely. She seems to want to play with the other dogs but they don't feel the same way towards her. She really would love a friend.

Housetrained- She seems somewhat house trained. However as with all new dogs she should be watched initially to ensure she doesn't start having accidents- she needs to be shown the rules of your home from the get go.

Duchess is just too darn cute. She is a little shy when it comes to children but seemed to adjust quickly with them sitting quietly for her to go up to. She just needs space and time. This girl is going to be absolutely beautiful!! She loves toys, loves using your hands and feet as toys, loves the other dogs, loves getting all the pets. She is gong to make a wonderful addition to any family wanting a lovely perfect little girl to spoil and love.

Adoption fee $250 includes spay, age appropriate vaccinations (4 for puppies), deworming, microchip, rabies, collar and leash, training information, and all the support you need.

Additional adoption info

If you are interested in adopting from us but have questions please feel free to e-mail us at adopt@almosthomenm.org

In order to start the application process you must send us an e-mail request for an application. We will e-mail it to you as soon as possible. Then just fill it out and send it back via e-mail. Once we receive it then we can schedule an appointment for you to come out and meet the animals.

We are not an open to the public facility with specific hours of operation. We are a foster home and therefore require an application submitted before an appointment can be made and directions given out.

If you would like to adopt from out of state then you must be willing to come out to meet and adopt the pet you are interested in.. We do not ship pets nor will we meet someone somewhere.. We want adopters to come out and spend at least an hour with this pet in their environment before adopting just to ensure there is a connection. We would hate for the adoption to not work and be so far away.

More about this rescue

We are a newly formed rescue in Peralta, NM. We are still very small and currently in process of getting our 501c3 tax exempt status. It is mainly just myself, my two daughters and a small group of volunteers. We only take in animals from shelters who are scheduled to be put down. All animals are housed in my home and on my property. We started this rescue due to the simple fact that there are so many wonderful dogs dying everyday at the shelters because there just isn't enough room.We do not discriminate against any breed. Every dog has the potential to be a great family pet, working dog, or therapy dog- just as every dog has the potential to become a "dangerous dog" due to the simple fact that they all (or most anyway) have teeth and can bite when provoked or trained to obey their owners commands.
We do it for the love of the animals and the need to find forever homes for the ones impounded due to no fault of their own.
