Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Whiskey is a gorgeous merle, retriever/herding mix, with soulful brown eyes that are just begging for an experienced owner to continue the confidence building and obedience training he has begun at Rogers K9. Whiskey is able to heal nicely and to maintain sit/stay as well as down stay.
He has a lot of energy, typical of his breed mix and loves to play fetch. Whiskey is most comfortable with familiar people; he takes some time to trust.
Because he has some herding breed qualities, he may be best as an only dog. A fenced in yard will help manage his energy level. Whiskey is almost 3 years old (DNA in photos) and he weighs 65 lbs. Whiskey is house-trained, crate-trained, and knows all his commands. He is very smart and learns fast. With Whiskey's breed mix he will require daily exercise. He is looking for someone with Aussie mix experience. He has lived with children (over age of 10) and is loyal to his family members. He has also been in a foster home that had a cat.
Whiskey is neutered, completely vaccinated and microchipped. Whiskey is not a "plug and play" dog, he will need someone willing to continue working with him;-)
Whiskey is currently at Rogers K9 board and train. We are in need of a foster home as he searches for his forever home. If you are interested in fostering, please submit a foster form. LAS provides everything for the foster program.
If you are interested in Whiskey, please submit an online application so we can learn a little about you to make sure he would be a good match for you. We do not do out of state adoptions, due to our trial adoption process. Adoption fee/donation is $150.00
If you have specific questions, please email the adoption coordinator at info@loveastraydog.com If you can't foster or adopt, please consider donating to help us with medical expenses and ongoing care. You can mail your donation to: Love-A-Stray, P.O. Box 125, Attn: Whiskey, Avon Lake, OH 44012 or visit www.loveastraydog.com for credit card/PayPal information, adoption application, available dogs and upcoming events. Thank you!

Meet the Pet
We do not have a physical facility. A meet and greet will be scheduled with a Love-A-Stray Volunteer, the dog, and our interested adopters.
Additional adoption info
Love-A-Stray is a non-profit all volunteer rescue group with most of our volunteers also having full time jobs, so we do the best we can to answer all inquires as soon as possible.
We ask that you complete our adoption application, so we can lean a little bit about you to ensure we can help find your perfect match.
Please do not ask us to ship our dogs out of state. WE DO NOT SHIP! We require adopters to fill out an adoption form and agree to the terms of our adoption contract. All pets are spay/neutered and vaccinated.
In addition to looking on the website, we show many of our rescued dogs at regular adoption events. Check out our upcoming events for the next opportunity to meet some of our dogs in person.

More about this rescue
Love-A-Stray is a non-profit, all volunteer, no-kill organization dedicated to helping homeless animals.
Since Love-A-Stray doesn't have a "physical" shelter and our animals are housed in foster homes, we do not have some of the usual operating expenses that would be required for a shelter. Consequently adoption fees, fundraising efforts, and donations go directly to a great cause - the animals! Our four fold mission is to:
1. Lessen pet overpopulation by sterilizing adoptable animals and employing aggressive low-cost spay/neuter programs in an effort to provide financial assistance for families who otherwise would not be able to sterilize their pet.
2. Offer housing for unwanted, homeless animals and when necessary, provide medical treatment including emergency veterinary care.
3. Value the life of all rescue animals by providing innovative behavior rehabilitation, when applicable, and placing them from nurturing foster families into loving, compatible, permanent homes.
4. Educate the public on the importance of being an advocate for animals emphasizing humane treatment and sterilization.
