WV Dogs

Cairo is an energetic, playful, and incredibly lovable 1 year old red Doberman.  Her unique ears add to her irresistible charm and cuteness.

When Cairo first arrived, she was very shy, but her sweet and spunky personality blossomed right away. She absolutely adores playing rough-and-tumble games with her foster sister, a 3-year-old English Bulldog, and they are fast friends. She also has an 8-year-old Boston Terrier/Pug mix foster brother, although her play style can sometimes be a bit too much for him. Cairo just loves all her toys! Stuffies, balls, bones, tug toys, squeakers—you name it, Cairo is a fan.

Cairo roams freely during the day without accidents and sleeps peacefully in her crate at night, although she would much prefer cuddling with her people! She loves to settle down in the evenings for snuggles on the couch with her foster siblings and her humans.

This smart girl is learning the ropes with basic commands like sit, stay, shake, down, and drop it. She’s also improving on leash-walking and loves chasing a ball in the yard—though she hasn’t quite mastered the art of bringing it back yet. A fenced yard is ideal, as Cairo enjoys her outdoor playtime, and her foster family has ensured she stays safe while exploring.

Cairo is friendly and affectionate with everyone she meets. She happily greets visitors and warms up quickly, even with strangers like the mailman. She has been very gentle with small children during brief encounters but would thrive best in a home with older kids (8 and up) due to her high energy. Cairo has shown no reactivity to the family cat; she was curious at first but quickly lost interest and now calmly walks past.

Like many young Dobermans, Cairo is still learning what’s appropriate to chew, but she redirects easily with her own toys. She’s shown no interest in the Christmas tree or gifts and prefers chewing on her dog dish instead. Surprisingly, Cairo isn’t much of a barker; she’s content to observe when her foster siblings bark at someone or another dog.

Cairo is eager to please, smart, and goofy, with an endless capacity for love and loyalty. She needs an experienced adopter who has owned Dobermans or large working breed dogs, a fenced yard to play in, and another playful dog companion to match her energy. Cairo would make a perfect addition to a home ready for her active and loving personality.

If you’re looking for a loyal, fun, and spirited companion, Cairo might just be the girl for you. She’s ready to choose her forever family—could it be you?  Apply at www.DUdobes.org

More about this rescue

We are an all-volunteer organization working to rescue dogs from abusive or neglectful situations as well as from shelters/pounds. We also accept dogs through Owner Surrender process, as space permits, when the owner is no longer able to care for the best interest of the dog. We provide necessary veterinary care while they are waiting to find their permanent home. We find adoptive homes through an adoption process which includes vet checks and home visits. We work to educate and promote the importance of spaying/neutering animals.
