My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Whether you think of a John Deere gator or the Florida mascot, this Gator is almost the opposite of both those images. This here Gator-Tater is a gentle boy, meant for couches and the adoring eyes of people. He is gentle, friendly, and honestly one of those easy dogs that just sort of melts into the mix. My favorite thing about Gator is his “auto-sit,” a skill many dogs never quiet master and is truly a marker of a dogs attentive and people-centered nature. The auto-sit is when they are called over by you or are offering greetings to a new friend and the default is to sit. Just imagine it, a dog the gently greets any and everyone by sitting at their feet, taking his big ol’ eyes and letting them land on that persons face- you or a new friend on the street… I mean, if that isn’t dreamy I don’t know what is. People will absolutely say “Awww, what a good boy!” They will be right. No jumping or overly eager attempts at attention and your affection, just good boy, gentle and easy.

Let me expand because Gator is more than a cute and friendly face! We have covered it-Gator is a sweet, affectionate dog- yes. Gentle? Absolutely! Friendly? Again, yes! Dog-friendly? Yes, aloof but playful, which is relatable. Adventures? Um, yes, opening the car door and telling him to load up is about the most you'll have to do. Estimated by our vet team to be 1 year old, he is a big- puppy! Occasionally limbs and legs but mostly attentive and enthusiastic about learning and experiences. One area he will need your guidance if you plan on having a walking or hiking partner is with leash skills. He has great basic leash manners but a polishing up once he is home will both look, and feel good on him. Initially, Gator was such a puppy with other dogs, friendly with a dash of wary, but living with dogs in his foster home has served him well, you can see his confidence and ease in his profile video. His love of chase is easy to see.

Gator is so fortunate, he is waiting for his fur-ever family in a foster home which gives him an incredible head-start on all the things it takes to be a good house dog. Most importantly, and honestly worth its weight in gold, he is house trained! His foster family gave him a tour of his potty places and one reminder and he took it from there. Not one accident in the house in the month he has been there. We love a smart and fast-learning dog!

When we introduced Gator to our house cat Tom, he showed us a mostly indifferent awareness. Given our house cat is pretty dog savvy, it is possible that he would chase an active cat in the name of playing chase. Whether or not you have a cat, Gator is definitely meant for the +1 category. He will thrive with another dog in the home because although he loves his people, canine companionship feels key to him having the whole-happy we hope for.

So to explain it simply, Gator’s ideal home would include an adoring person/people, a playful canine companion, and if you asked him- a nice lady. He really seems to love the feminine energy. Though he hasn’t been introduced to little kids yet, we feel confident that he is a gentle boy who would do well in a home with kids. If you are interested and have littles, be in touch- we will happily introduce him to kids and offer any observations or feedback we can. We always want to offer an honest insight into a dog to ensure they are the one for you and your life.

Gator is ready to become a loyal companion, perfect for the kind of strolls where you meet new friends, and waiting for the evening naps where he enjoys your company while you watch Netflix or get caught-up on your FYP. Gator has the makings of what we all look for in *The One.” If he feels like he is yours please do not hesitate to reach out or fill out an application! These are the ones that go fast and for good reason.

Why adopt from Three Little Pitties?

The stray and animal overpopulation in the Greater Houston area is the highest in the nation. Statistics show that there are over 1 million homeless animals in this region alone. Three Little Pitties Rescue is a nonprofit dog and cat rescue that partners with the community to make a difference. Our mission is to reduce the homeless pet population through community outreach, free spay and neuter services, and saving all breeds of dogs and cats from the streets or animal shelters that oftentimes have no other option but to euthanize animals for space. This dog you’ve found online is lucky to be in our program, and even luckier to have you notice it!

Three Little Pitties wants to set you and your new pet up for success! We know our dogs and we work hard to prepare them socially for adoption. We are a network of dedicated people who are heavily invested in seeing our animals thrive. From the moment they are accepted into our program, our Intake, Behavior & Medical teams prepare them for adoption by properly vetting, behaviorally assessing, and providing customized plans depending on the dog’s needs. We seek to adopt to families who understand that these are rescue dogs and will require continued training efforts, but will be well on their way to being the best dogs that they can be!

It doesn’t stop there! Our adopters also receive these special perks:

• 30 day trial of pet insurance with Trupanion (must register within 24 hours of first vet appt.)
• A free private online dog training session with GoodPup plus low pricing for future sessions (approx $25 weekly for an 8 week course of one session per week)
• One free bonus toy in every BarkBox when signing up for their Super Chewer subscription plan
• 70% off of your first order of Fetch, a PNW based, organic fresh dog food loaf meal subscription plan
• Coupons for a fun visit to Petco
• Access to our exclusive FB Adopters page, where you can network for play dates, resources, and connect with other adopters that share their passion for their adopted pup!

We celebrated our 5 year anniversary this year! Through the combined efforts of all of our hardworking staff and volunteers, we have placed over 12,000 very lucky dogs and cats into amazing homes! By adopting from us, you save TWO lives! The pet you adopt, and you create an opportunity for another animal to be saved in that spot. Together, we can be heroes.
