Meet Comet, a gentle soul with a curious spirit. Despite his shy demeanor, he`s always ready for an adventure, especially if it involves a leash. He weighs 20 pounds and while exploring the world around him, he`s easy to handle and always happy to take a leisurely stroll. Comet`s sweet nature is evident in his careful, wary approach to new things and people. Please be patient as he learns to trust. He might know something about house training, which makes him a great companion for those looking for a well-behaved pet. Comet can be a bit nervous, but with patience and love, he warms up quickly. Comet`s gentle, curious, and sweet nature makes him the perfect addition to any home. His ability to adapt and his eagerness to explore make him a joy to be around. We haven`t seen him interact with other dogs yet or children but his timidity at times is leading us to require that kids in the home at be least eight years old.. Pet Adoption Fees
CAP adoption fees include a variety of services - age-appropriate vaccinations, canine heartworm, and feline leukemia tests, spaying/neutering, deworming treatment, microchipping to name a few - the total value of which exceeds $450. These minimal adoption fees cover only part of each animal's stay at our shelter - please help us keep adoption fees low while maintaining the high quality of care for the animals in our charge by donating and/or volunteering.

A second dog or puppy, adopted within 30 days of the first adoption receives a $20 discount.

Any dog/puppy adopted at the same time as a cat/kitten will be adoptable at a $20 discount.

Citizens For Animal Protection, founded in 1972, is committed to sheltering, rescuing, and placing homeless animals in loving homes; advocating respect and compassion for all animal life; providing humane education to prevent animal cruelty; and raising awareness in the community of the needs of animals.

CAP is proud to announce that through life-saving adoption and transfer programs and a lot of hard work, we have maintained a placement rate of over 93% for all homeless pets surrendered to our shelter in 2021. In 2021, CAP provided care for 10,260 animals; this includes animals surrendered by the public and transferred in from animal control agencies and rescue groups, animals already in the shelter and foster care program, feral cats trapped/neutered/returned and animals receiving vaccinations and other treatments in our low-cost vaccination clinic, The Cornelius Clinic.
