My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
Jaku was brought in by our Humane Law Enforcement team on 10/12/24.

Why this pet is the one for you:
Say hello to Jaku, a handsome fellow on the hunt for a patient, understanding human (or two!) to share his world with. Jaku is a dog of mystery, known to keep his distance at first, but don't let that fool you - with some time and trust, he opens up and reveals a sweet, affectionate side that will melt your heart. He's a bit like a fine wine - he takes a little time to develop, but once you've got him, he's worth the wait. Just give him some space and let him come to you at his own pace. Jaku has had some negative interactions with other dogs in the past, so he's looking for a home where he can be your one and only guy, so no other dogs in the home. Jaku would thrive in a quiet home where he can be the center of attention. When it comes to kids, Jaku has no history with them, so he would do best with older, respectful children who can read doggy body language and interact with him in a calm, gentle manner. Adopters should be prepared to let Jaku take his time to feel comfortable. Once he trusts you, you'll see that he's a loyal companion with a personality that's worth every bit of patience. Don't forget to bring a leash and collar when you come to meet him - Jaku's waiting to find that special someone who can help him come out of his shell and live his best life.

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
