My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Handsome, a 1 year old, 15 lb Terrier mix with a big heart and an even bigger personality!
Handsome has come a long way in his foster home, blossoming into a friendly, easygoing pup. He loves being around his people and quickly bonds with familiar faces, and is always eager for pets and attention. With strangers, he’s equally friendly and welcoming, always happy to make new friends. On walks, he’s a social butterfly, eagerly greeting other dogs. He may be a bit uncertain around the neighborhood cats, but his curiosity gets the best of him when it comes to birds and squirrels, whom he’s more than ready to play with!

Handsome is fully crate-trained, sleeps peacefully through the night, and has no trouble being in his crate when left alone – though his foster hasn’t needed to leave him much since he’s such an easy companion to bring along. Handsome enjoys his daily routine, starting with a long morning walk to get his energy going, then some short strolls throughout the day, and finally an evening fetch session to let him run around and play.

Handsome’s energy level is moderate, and while he’s generally well-behaved, he does have a bit of a cheeky side – he’s been known to hump things when he gets overly excited! With a bit of guidance, this little quirk can surely be managed.

Handsome’s ideal home would have a yard where he can romp around freely and maybe even a doggy sibling to keep him company. His foster family’s favorite thing about him? That adorable underbite that adds so much charm to his already irresistible personality!

Additional adoption info

At the HIT Living Foundation, we rescue domestic and international at risk puppies and dogs who have been through traumatic experiences such as having high medical needs or a life with out any human companionship. It is of the utmost importance to us our pups are placed with the right fur-ever home based on compatibility. We work with all applicants and assess lifestyle and living situations to make sure you're the right fit for the pup and the pup is the right fit for you/your family.

Once you've submitted your application, please allow 48 hours for review. If approved and we think it's a good match, we will move forward with a meet and greet where we urge you to bring your other dogs if applicable, followed by a home check. Once we are certain the dog is right for you and you are right for the dog, we will move to a foster to adopt program. There will then be a 7 day trial period to make sure the dog is the right fit in your home. If we collectively determine the dog is the right fit, we will ask at the end of the 7 days to finalize the adoption by signing an adoption contract and make it official.

Adoption/Donation Fees

Donation fees vary based on each puppy or dog and typically range from $200 - $500. These fees take into consideration age, training level, temperament, if they’re newly arrived, medical condition(s), if any, and other factors. The HIT Living Foundation provides spay / neutered, micro-chip and current on DHPP and Rabies Vaccines. Adoptions fees are used not only to rescue and place the dog you are personally adopting, but to aid in the future rescue and rehabilitation of other deserving dogs. Adoption fees are necessary; without fees, our rescue efforts would quickly come to an end.

The fee will be required up front and will be refunded if the dog is returned with in the 7 day trial period. If the dog is returned after the 7 days, there will be no refund issued. As a non-profit, heavily volunteer based operation, all proceeds go towards the rescue, medical care, sterilization, vaccination and boarding of the dogs.

*We reserve the right to deny an adoption applicant.

More about this rescue

Honesty, integrity and trust: these are the three pillars of The HIT Living Foundation, a Los Angeles-based animal welfare organization. Founded in 2018, this 501(c)(3) nonprofit primarily focuses on dog rescue, rehabilitation and re-homing, as well as spay/neuter programs abroad. With open hearts and minds, HIT Living brings compassion to their work in animal and human welfare, as well as providing financial and physical assistance during times of crisis.

Though the organization itself is only a few years old, their successes continue to mount. Here at home, they have placed over 55 Los Angeles shelter dogs in loving forever homes across the nation, in addition to having 59 dogs currently in foster care in Los Angeles. Meanwhile, abroad they have participated in 3 spay/neuter clinics in Abaco, Bahamas and provided anesthetic medication for 100 spays/neuters at a clinic in Matanzas, Cuba. In the disastrous wake of Hurricane Dorian, the HIT Living team was on the ground in the Bahamas, operating their own full clinic, which fixed 70 dogs and cats, provided free vet care for 30 dogs and cats, adopted out 5 dogs, and implemented search and rescue missions for strays, as well as flying 16 dogs to the United States for adoption.
