My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

PLEASE NOTE! Unless stated otherwise, our dogs and puppies are located in Arkansas, and transported to the north/northeast once adopted. We do occasionally have dogs/puppies placed in foster homes in the north/northeast. In the cases where the pet is somewhere other than Arkansas, it will be noted beside the name of the pet.

12/17/24 Millie needs somewhere to go IMMEDIATELY. Currently located in PA. Available to foster or adopt.
Millie originally can't into rescue a little over a year ago, after a domestic violence situation left her homeless. Her home included a baby and a couple of very young kids which she loved dearly. We specifically wanted a home with kids for her at that time. She was adopted 9-10 months ago, to a family with a 14 yr old son. We were under the impression that everything was going great, until today. We don't know the circumstances, but Millie bit the 14 yr old. It was a very minor bite. No medical attention was needed. But now the son is scared of her and threatening to go live with the other parent if Millie stays in the home. Her adopter says that she has always been tense around the son. We do know that she is more comfortable around women, and she may suffered some abuse from the 'dad' in her original home. Millie is very cuddly and affectionate. She is excellent with other dogs and cats. Please help us keep her out of the shelter. She needs a home, or a foster home, right away. Due to this incident, we would like to see her go to a home with out children. But may be open to a meet n greet with a family that includes, to see how she responds to them. It seems that she likes young kids, and i would assume that if she meets the kids while young, she will be fine with them as they grow into big kids. This will just need to be determined on a case by case basis. Millie has been through a lot in her 4 years of life. She needs an understanding family who will accept her and pay attention to any cues she may give when she's uncomfortable. She is located in PA but we may be able to find a volunteer transport to help her get to other locations. Please share. She is very urgent.

More about this rescue

Adopt-A-Stray was founded in Jan. 2010, by Kelley Prichard. Since then, it has grown to include a few wonderful volunteers who work very hard to help ensure that our pets are place in loving, forever homes. We are based in Alexander, AR, but we list all of our available pets in the northeast. We work with several different transporters to get our babies to their new homes in the northeast once they are adopted. The transporter we use most often Pack Leaders (www.plrdogtransport.com). All pets are given age appropriate vaccinations before they leave. Every pet is seen by our vet prior to transport. If you see a pet listed that interests you, please be sure to read the description thoroughly and inquire to the email address listed. Thank you for considering a rescue dog!
