Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Blackie– the ultimate lap dog! Blackie is a sweet, affectionate 9 year-old Terrier mix who’s happiest when snuggled up in your lap for a long nap or lounging by your side for some quality bonding time. He’s the kind of dog that brings quiet joy to a home—calm, loyal, and eager to love his human. Within hours of arriving at his foster home, Blackie was happily asking for back scratches and cozy lap time, proving just how quickly he bonds with those he trusts.
Blackie is fully house-trained and a polite little gentleman when it comes to potty breaks—he’s happy to go on leash or explore the yard. He’s also crate-trained and willingly goes into his crate at night or when needed. While he does bark for a bit when his foster mom leaves for work, but will quickly settle in for his daily naps.
Blackie is mild-mannered and doesn’t require a high level of activity—just a quick walk around the yard or a short stroll will do. He loves sniffing out new smells during his explorations and makes the cutest little grunting sounds while doing so, guaranteed to make you smile!
He’s still getting used to life with other dogs and seems a bit nervous around them, so he may prefer to be the only pet in his forever home or introduced slowly to resident dogs. He’s shown no interest in cats during brief encounters and would likely do fine in a calm, quiet environment.
Blackie is a gentle soul who wants nothing more than to love and be loved in return. If you’re looking for a loyal, cuddly, and easygoing companion, Blackie is ready to fill your life with quiet joy, laughter (thanks to his cute little habits), and unconditional love. He’s patiently waiting for the perfect lap to call his forever home—could it be yours?
The adoption fee is $250. Adoption fee includes spay/neuter, heartworm/Lyme test, all age-appropriate vaccinations (distemper, rabies, and Bordetella), heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchip implant (including registration). Adoption fees INCLUDE a mandatory sales tax of 7.525%. Age and breed are based on veterinarian and intake professional’s recommendation and not guaranteed as a rescue animal’s history is often unknown.

Pet Haven is a foster-based rescue. Our animals live with foster families until they are placed in permanent homes and their foster families get to know the dogs and cats learning important information about the animals. For example, the foster family will know if the dog or cat is good with other animals or children, and will have a good idea of what kind of training, attention, and special needs the pet may require. This makes our foster families great resources for potential adopters!

Our Mission
Pet Haven improves the lives of pets and the people who love them by rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming dogs and cats; reducing pet overpopulation by supporting spay and neuter efforts, and providing resources to people that help strengthen the human-animal bond.
Our Vision
A Minnesota where all pets live in safe, loving homes.
Our Values
Excellence in service and care; community; integrity; innovation; perseverance; compassion; a rewarding place to volunteer
How We Help
Spay/Neuter Initiative Program: Providing support to end pet overpopulation in Minnesota
Owner Surrender: Providing a safe haven for pet owners
Foster: Committed to finding forever homes for cats and dogs
Phoenix Fund for Special Needs: Providing veterinary care for animals in need of healing
What We Do
We help dogs and cats find homes with loving families through foster-based care. Every dog and cat lives with a foster family until they find their forever families. We provide all of their basic needs including proper food, veterinary care, behavior training, and supplies.
Through in-home fostering, we learn about each animal’s temperament, personality, likes/dislikes, and any medical needs. With this first-hand information, we can then find the right family for each dog and cat.
Our volunteers also educate the public on responsible companion animal care and represent respect for animals at all times. Whether we’re working with prospective new families, meeting people at public events, or socializing with friends and family, we encourage others to view and treat their pets as members of the family. We are their guardians, and they depend on us for companionship and care.
We spay/neuter prior to adoption.
We microchip all our Pet Haven Pets and remain as a secondary contact.
We make sure all pets are up to date on required vaccinations
We test for Heartworm and Lymes in all our dogs and are transparent in the results and treament
We test for FeLV/FIV and are transparent in the results. We believe that cats who test positive still deserve a chance at a quality home.
We do not euthanize animals unless they have untreatable health or behavioral conditions that deny them an acceptable quality of life or makes them a serious threat to people, other animals, or themselves.
How We Operate
We rely on adoption fees, tax-deductible donations, grants, and special events to keep our rescue operating. Our staff, Board of Directors, and volunteers have provided the passion and commitment to keep Pet Haven a safe haven for animals for almost 70 years.
We are committed to preventing pet homelessness through the SNIP Grant. Since 2005, we have granted more than $240,000 to organizations in Minnesota to support spay/neuter initiatives.
