My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Gingerbread!

This beautiful boy hails from the great north. He came into the shelter with his brother, Snickerdoodle, and the two of them were often found running the neighborhood together.

Gingerbread is a strong, confident dog who is super friendly with people and very food motivated! The ideal home for this sweet boy would be in a rural area with an experienced adopter who can work with him on his training. He is very excitable, but does not like other dogs and will need a strong adopter who can handle such a strong, big boy! Do you have a house with a yard, and some time to spend welcoming a new friend into your life? Gingerbread is so loving and affectionate and will be the perfect companion to someone who can provide him with a life of stable adventure!

If you are interested, you can apply online or come and meet him in person. Adoption hours are Tues-Sun, 12-3 (closed on Mondays).

The society also conducts more than 4,600 cruelty investigations and provides a wide range of advocacy and education programs for domestic, farm and wild animals through its Provincial Office.

Our mission, vision and charter is at the heart of all we do to rescue, protect and care for animals. It is also the driving force behind our animal welfare and education programs.

Our Charter:

The BC SPCA Charter is the foundation that guides the work we do:

Whereas:

The world is inhabited by many species sharing a common ecosystem of air, earth, and water. We recognize and value our interconnectedness with all animals.

Therefore:

The BC Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for the animals of the world we share.

We pledge our energies to inspire and mobilize society to create a world in which all animals, who depend on humans for their well-being, experience, as a minimum, five essential freedoms:

1. Freedom from hunger and thirst

2. Freedom from pain, injury, and disease

3. Freedom from distress

4. Freedom from discomfort

5. Freedom to express behaviours that promote well-being.
